Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing to provide feedback regarding the corporate event we hosted at your hotel on Tuesday. Overall, we were extremely pleased with the event facilities, and our team thoroughly enjoyed the scheduled activities throughout the day. However, I would like to offer a few constructive suggestions regarding the condition of some of the hotel management.
The event took place at the central conference hall which was the biggest room. The hall was spacious enough to accommodate all 270 invited guests. The organized event was comprised of team activities as well as presenting ideas and following post-session activities.
Particularly, the interior design of the hotel impressed me well. Additionally, we all were extremely delighted by the hotel staff management who were working relentlessly. Nevertheless, all the guests enjoyed the hospitality of the hotel services and especially the food which was tasty and healthy.
However, I would like to make suggestions around hotel services which were provided a little bit late at some points. Furthermore, we noticed the noise pollution happening at the rooftop, so putting a sign board of quiet area at some times would be a great step.
I hope you will address the above-mentioned concerns and hopefully in future we look forward to organizing the next event at this hotel again.
Yours faithfully,
Viral

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The event details are clear, and the suggestions are relevant. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the suggestion regarding 'noise pollution' is a bit vague, and the description of the event could have been more specific to demonstrate a higher level of engagement with the task. Overall, the response is well-structured and fulfills the requirements of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different requirements of the task. Cohesive devices such as 'However,' 'Additionally,' 'Furthermore,' and 'Nevertheless' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is clear throughout the text, and the reader can easily follow the writer's intent. The use of referencing is generally accurate, contributing to the overall coherence of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. There are some good collocations such as 'corporate event,' 'event facilities,' and 'constructive suggestions.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'impressed me well' and 'noise pollution happening at the rooftop.' While the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the intended meaning without difficulty, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are grammatically sound, and errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. For example, 'The hall was spacious enough to accommodate all 270 invited guests' is a well-constructed sentence. There are minor issues, such as 'the condition of some of the hotel management' (which is slightly awkward) and 'putting a sign board of quiet area' (which lacks an article and preposition). Overall, the control of grammar is good, though more variety in complex structures would be beneficial.
