Student answer (Band 6.0)

Respected Madam/Sir,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am formally writing to praise your hotel management and commendable customer service. Anyhow, i would specify a significant suggestion at the end.

To begin with, i organised a summit in the Blossom Hall on behalf of my company on 24 September evening which turned out to be the marvelous program.

Firstly, the decore, lights, air conditioning system and the multi-media projector were above the expectations. Furthermore, sound system enhanced every speakes ability to communicate and present the whole content smoothly. Luckily, whole staff found to be co-operative and vigilant. Our company's CEO appreciated the whole ambiance of the area. We are planning to organise another conference which is in the next month.

Unfortunately, all members experienced a common challenge and that was insufficient parking area. Undoubtedly, all participants and audience have to park their automobiles. Although, main parking was allocated for us but it is quite distant from the hall.

Conclusively, I would suggest you to arrange a seggregated parking for each event hall to avoind the inconvience. I would appreciate if you consider my suggestion and take an immediate action on this.

Thanking you in advance.

Yours sincerely,

Madiha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting an area for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though the development of the suggestion could be slightly more detailed to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is well-structured and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Unfortunately' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the use of 'the' before 'whole staff'. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the flow of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'commendable', 'vigilant', and 'ambiance'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'decore' (decor), 'speakes' (speakers), 'seggregated' (segregated), and 'avoind' (avoid). Additionally, some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'marvelous program' to describe a business summit. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of precise, context-appropriate vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'i would specify' (should be capitalized), 'whole staff found to be co-operative' (passive voice error), and 'all participants and audience have to park' (tense inconsistency). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors with article usage and sentence construction. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences would help improve your score in this criterion.
