Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir / madam,

We the "auto mechanic 22" company we thank you for the warm hosting of our event at your beautiful hotel.

The event was great, the large screen helped us to explain to our costumers our goals and vision for the future. The four hours meeting with the investors passed like an instant.

The architecture and the plan of the hotel are very event friendly, we didn't got any problems to organize the set. And the decorations are futuristics. And about the parking it's very wide in case there is many visitors.

And thank the chef for me, the dishes were delicious, variant like salty and sweet.

And I have to tell you about the accès to the hotel, the road is bad and bumpy especially the last hundred meters, we hope you will fix that soon.

From : Nadir the "auto mechanic 22" senior manager.

Thank you

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The letter covers all three bullet points: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these points is somewhat superficial. For instance, while you mention the screen and the architecture, the description lacks the professional tone expected in a formal letter to a manager. The structure is also slightly informal for a business communication, and the closing is not standard. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are expanded with more formal language and that the letter follows a standard business format.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter is organized into short paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the points. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite basic and repetitive. You rely heavily on 'And' to start sentences, such as 'And the decorations...', 'And about the parking...', and 'And thank the chef...'. This makes the flow feel mechanical rather than natural. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases like 'Furthermore', 'In addition', or 'Regarding the...', which would create a more sophisticated and logical progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. You use some simple descriptors like 'great', 'bad', and 'delicious'. While these communicate your meaning, they are quite basic. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'event friendly' and 'variant like salty and sweet'. To improve, focus on using more precise business-related vocabulary and idiomatic collocations that are appropriate for a formal letter to a manager.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are several grammatical errors throughout the text that affect the quality of the writing. Examples include 'we didn't got any problems' (should be 'we didn't have'), 'in case there is many visitors' (should be 'in case there are many visitors'), and 'the accès' (spelling error). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure you are using the correct tense and word forms. Increasing the variety of your sentence structures will also help improve your score.
