Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I hope this letter finds you well. My concern for writing this letter is to express my thanksgiving for all the wonderful preparations you have done for organizing event of our company successfully.

Me and my company came for an event on Sept 8,2026 which was named as "The Glorious Avenue". The event was regarding the award ceremony and to award the company staff at different positions who gave their best to the company. As per my request the hall was decorated with beautiful LED lights and black and golden balloons. Secondly, the food menu items were all as decided. The best thing I liked about the hotel is hospitality services and taste of food. Your hotel staff was very polite and respectful. They were doing their work very well and giving their best. Furthermore, the food was so delicious. As we discussed. I requested 3 types of cuisines Indian, Canadian and Korean and I must say everything tastes beyond my expectations.

It was my right decision to suggest my boss your hotel for organizing the event. The only thing which I was wondering was the sound system. I believe it should be updated with more sound effects. Except that everything was amazing and your services to us really stood to our expectations. I would be really happy with organizing more events in future.

Thank You,

Yours Faithfully,

Mehak Arora

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all bullet points required in the task instructions. You provided details about the event, mentioning its name "The Glorious Avenue", the date, and the specific decorations requested, such as LED lights and balloons. You clearly highlighted what you liked about the hotel, focusing on the hospitality services, polite staff, and the excellent food across the three requested cuisines. Finally, you offered a suggestion for improvement regarding the sound system. The tone is appropriate for a business letter to a hotel manager, and the purpose is clear from the beginning. However, ideas could be slightly more extended to reach a higher band level, but all requirements are met satisfactorily.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall progression and logical organization. You use standard conventions for a formal letter, beginning with a proper salutation and concluding with a sign-off. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different points, such as event details in the second paragraph and areas for improvement in the third paragraph. Cohesive devices are generally well managed, with phrases like "Secondly", "Furthermore", and "Except that" helping to guide the reader. However, referencing is occasionally slightly clunky, as seen in "Me and my company came", and transitional links could be used with greater flexibility to ensure smoother connections between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a formal business letter, using terms such as "hospitality services", "cuisine", and "expectations". There are some successful attempts to use less common vocabulary, like "beyond my expectations". However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors that prevent a higher score, such as saying "My concern for writing this letter is to express my thanksgiving" instead of "The purpose of this letter is to express my gratitude", and "Me and my company" instead of "My company and I". Spelling is generally accurate, but vocabulary control lacks the precision and flexibility seen at higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writing includes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable command of grammar. You successfully use relative clauses and compound sentences, such as "The event was regarding the award ceremony and to award the company staff at different positions who gave their best to the company." However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward structures throughout the text, including "organizing event" (missing article), "on Sept 8,2026 which was named as" (incorrect preposition and passive usage), and "everything tastes beyond my expectations" (tense inconsistency, as the event was in the past). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to place the writing firmly in the band 6 category.
