Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir / Madam
This letter is regarding the event held by our organization at your meeting hall on 6th September 2026.
This was our company's annual performance review meeting of board of directors, and since they had travelled from different part of the world, we were looking at something whereby they can stay overnight as well.
I am pleased to provide this feedback that hotel rooms were quiet, cozy and comfortable for two nights of stay. Meeting hall was also big enough to accommodate all attendees, and thanks for arranging the big screen for presentation on short notice. I also do appreciate the kind demeanor and professionalism of your staff.
However. regretfully this has to inform you that many of our members including myself had to take help of nearby hotel and pay them extra charge to let us park of company cars as your parking slots were full when our events convened. on account of this, meeting started ten minutes late.
I hope that your hotel would work around to provide a guest friendly parking in future.
Your faithfully
Muhammad Waqass

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. The student provides specific details about the event, mentioning the date, the venue type, and the company's annual performance review meeting for the board of directors. Furthermore, the writer highlights positive aspects of the hotel, specifically praising the quiet and cozy rooms, the accommodating meeting hall, the big screen, and the professionalism of the staff. Finally, the letter clearly suggests an area for improvement by addressing the parking issues encountered by attendees. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter to a hotel manager, and the purpose of the communication is clear throughout. The student meets all requirements of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally coherent and follows a logical organizational structure suitable for formal correspondence. It begins with a clear opening purpose, moves through details, positives, and negatives, and concludes with a polite expectation for future improvements. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as the event details, positive feedback, and complaints. However, some cohesive devices are occasionally awkward or mechanical, such as 'However. regretfully this has to inform you' and 'on account of this'. Despite these minor flaws in cohesion and referencing, the overall progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating business and hospitality terms such as 'organization', 'annual performance review', 'professionalism', and 'accommodate'. There are some word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'different part of the world' instead of 'different parts of the world', 'take help of' instead of 'seek help from', and 'let us park of company cars'. However, these lexical errors do not impede communication, and the vocabulary used is sufficient to convey the intended message with reasonable precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, showing an attempt at varied grammatical forms. There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include missing articles ('hotel rooms' instead of 'the hotel rooms', 'Meeting hall' instead of 'The meeting hall'), punctuation issues ('However. regretfully'), and awkward phrasing ('this has to inform you'). Additionally, the preposition use in 'pay them extra charge to let us park of company cars' contains errors. While these mistakes are noticeable, the majority of sentences are understandable, and they rarely impede overall communication.
