Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to inform you about that my company is planning to set-up an event at you hotel. In addition, I would like you to provide me the details and quotation about whole company event.
First of all, the event is mainly about new technology which is AI and how is it useful in our workplace for particular sofwares to make our work and daily life easy, stress free and quick.
Not only about the softwares but also they would explain about benefits, disadvantages of AI using at waorkplace. Additionally, there would be a delicious dinner to enjoy at the end.
Secondly, The things that attracted and draw an attention to my eyes is that decoration, organization and cleanliness. How amazing the hotel staffs were and the services provided by them and they were providing some special discounts to the customers who give them some big contracts frequently.
Nevertheless, It require some changes about the quality of some crockeries like plates, bowls, spoons..These seemed to be old fashioned and in a bad condition.
Thank you for such an outstanding service and consideration. Hoping to see you soon.
Best regards,
Riya Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all three bullet points from the prompt, although there is a notable contradiction regarding the timeframe of the event. The opening states that the company is 'planning to set-up an event', whereas later parts of the letter suggest the event has already occurred, as indicated by 'Thank you for such an outstanding service and consideration.' Despite this confusion in tense and timeline, all required aspects—providing event details, mentioning what was liked about the hotel (decoration, organization, cleanliness, and staff), and suggesting areas for improvement (crockery quality)—are addressed. The ideas are relevant and support the purpose of a general training correspondence, earning a solid Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a recognizable format with a standard greeting and sign-off, and the paragraphs are generally organized logically around specific themes. For instance, the second paragraph details the event, the third outlines hotel highlights, and the fourth discusses areas for improvement. However, the transitions between ideas can feel a bit mechanical, using basic sequencing markers like 'First of all,' 'Secondly,' and 'Nevertheless'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun shift in 'the event is mainly about... but also they would explain'. Overall paragraphing is acceptable, placing the response at a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the intended message about organizing an event, hotel features, and critiques of tableware. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'stress free', 'disadvantages', and 'old fashioned'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'draw an attention' instead of 'draw attention', 'AI using at waorkplace' instead of 'using AI at the workplace', and 'crockeries' (crockery is an uncountable noun). These minor inaccuracies do not impede communication, placing the lexical range firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical errors occur throughout the text. Notable errors include tense and preposition inconsistencies, such as 'inform you about that my company', 'at you hotel', 'how is it useful', and 'It require some changes'. Punctuation is also flawed, particularly with improper comma placement and fragmented sentences like 'Not only about the softwares but also they would explain...'. Because the errors are frequent but rarely impede overall comprehension, a Band 5.5 is appropriate.
