Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the task. You provide clear details about the event, mentioning your company's 25th anniversary and a profit milestone. You also highlight what you particularly liked about the hotel, specifically praising the staff's hospitality and reception of your clients. Furthermore, you suggest an area for improvement by pointing out the car parking issues experienced by your staff. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a hotel manager, though it occasionally shifts into overly personal anecdotes that slightly affect the professional register. However, all core requirements are fully addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall structure, opening with an appropriate salutation and closing with a standard sign-off. Ideas are organised into logical paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on a specific part of the prompt (event details, hotel highlights, and areas for improvement). However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or awkwardly linked, such as the repetitive use of 'and also company has recently' or 'where you need to improve, which is'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct points, but referencing and transitional phrases could be smoother to achieve a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items such as 'milestone', 'hospitality', and 'generous respect'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors that hinder precision, such as 'organised an special event' (an special event), 'dramatic experience' (where a positive adjective like 'wonderful' or 'memorable' was intended), and 'all type of necessary needs'. Spelling is generally accurate, but the lexical control reflects a band 6 level due to these unnatural collocations and minor slips in word form.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional clauses ('If had a more money, I would have celebrated') and relative clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors, including tense and agreement issues ('company has recently celebrated an event... and also company has recently touched', 'Mr. Tim John have decided'), missing subjects ('If had a more money'), and awkward relative clauses ('where they does not get proper parking space'). These errors occasionally require the reader to re-read, placing it firmly in the band 5.5 to 6.0 range.
