Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Madam,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing about the company event that was recently held at you hotel. It is about the annual stockholders' meeting.

First, I would like to express my gratitutde for accommodating our company event. As one of its organizers, I am responsible of the managing the event, from planning to execution phase. We first met when our team conducted an occular visit to the hotel. After that, we discussed the specifics of the event, such as the date and time. Also, we started to lay-out the plans, including our budget.

From then, I knew from that the stockholders's meeting will be a success. This is largely because of the hotel's modern facilities, which consequently enable both the company and its stockholders to have productive annual meeting. For instance, the hotel provided a dedicated parking space for the annual meeting attendees. Additionally, the the meeting was held in a separate building within the hitel vicinity, ensuring privacy for all the stockholders. Moreover, there function hall where the meeting was held is equipped with all the modern technologicalm devices, such as ipads fro each participant, thereby streamlining and sycnhronzing information sharing.

However, I noticed during the meeting that food was served late. Therefore, I would like to suggest that there should be proper coordination with the kitchen staff to ensure timely delivery of the food. Overall, everything is great!

Thank you and I look forward to working with you again.

Kind regards,

Elisa

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the prompt. Elisa provides details about the event, mentioning it was an annual stockholders' meeting held at the hotel with modern facilities, dedicated parking, and separate buildings. She highlights the modern technological devices, such as iPads for each participant, as what she particularly liked. Furthermore, she suggests an area for improvement by pointing out the late serving of food and recommending proper coordination with the kitchen staff. The tone is consistently polite and appropriate for a semi-formal workplace letter, effectively meeting all task requirements for a general training task of this type.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, middle paragraphs addressing specific prompts, and a polite concluding paragraph. Elisa uses paragraphing effectively to separate the introduction, event details and positive aspects, and the area for improvement. Cohesive devices such as 'First', 'After that', 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'However' are employed to guide the reader smoothly through the letter. Although there are some minor mechanical links, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

Elisa demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary with attempts at less common items such as 'accommodating', 'execution phase', 'streamlining', and 'synchronizing'. However, there are a few noticeable spelling and typographical errors, including 'gratitutde', 'occular', 'hitel', 'fro', and 'sycnhronzing'. Word choice is generally appropriate for the context of an event feedback letter, but these slips prevent the lexical score from reaching a higher band. Despite these errors, communication is never impeded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response features a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and relative clauses. There are several error-free sentences, demonstrating decent control. However, a few grammatical inaccuracies occur, such as 'at you hotel' (missing 'r'), 'I am responsible of the managing' (incorrect preposition and article), and 'there function hall where' (incorrect word 'there'). Punctuation is generally fine, and these minor structural slips do not impede overall understanding.
