Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt, though some parts are slightly limited in detail. The student provides details about the event, mentioning it was a seminar on healthy drinks to promote market strategies. They also highlight what was liked, specifically noting the great customer service and the happiness of attendees. Finally, an area for improvement is suggested regarding seating capacity and planning. While the purpose of the letter is somewhat unconventional—asking to join the event organization department of the hotel rather than complaining or thanking in a standard guest capacity—the tone remains appropriate for a formal business correspondence. Ideas are generally clear and relevant, placing this response comfortably at Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical overall arrangement and adopts standard letter conventions with a clear greeting and sign-off. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Finally' are used to structure the text, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points of the letter. However, referencing and cohesion at the sentence level occasionally falter, such as in the awkward transition 'Thank you time and consideration', where a preposition is missing. Overall, the progression is clear enough to follow without difficulty, meeting the criteria for a solid Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range to communicate the main points of the task. Words and phrases such as 'seminar', 'promotion', and 'strategies' show an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text. For example, writing 'count the length of the customer' is unnatural, and using 'with blissfully' is grammatically incorrect. Furthermore, there is a misspelling ('becasue'). Despite these lexical inaccuracies, the meaning remains comprehensible to the reader, aligning well with the Band 5.5 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and dependent clauses such as 'I would appreciate it if you could give me an opportunity...' and 'I would like to suggest before planning, please count...'. However, grammatical control is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors, including missing prepositions ('Thank you time and consideration'), awkward phrasing ('customer service was really great of this event'), and incorrect word forms ('enjoying the event with blissfully'). Punctuation and capitalization errors also appear in the sign-off ('yOUR faithfully'). These errors occasionally cause strain for the reader, leading to a score of 5.5.
