Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir / Madam,
Greetings for the day! Last week my company Nexus organized an event in your hotel. I am writing this letter to thank you for providing excellent service during that event. I would also like to share some feedback that may be useful for your hotel.
At the onset, the event was a one-day company seminar attended by around 80 employees. it included some meetings, conferences, group discussions and dinner in the evening. We booked the main hall as well as the dinning area, and the event ran smoothly from 8:00 am to 9:00pm.
Further, I was particularly impressed by the professionalism and helpfulness of your staff. The conference hall was spacious, clean and well-equipped with modern audio-visual facilities. I also appreciated the quality of the food, especially the variety of vegetarian options. The hotel’s convenient location and comfortable atmosphere were additional advantages.
Lastly, However, there are a few areas that could be improved. The Wi-Fi connection was rather slow during the afternoon, which caused some difficulty during the presentations. In addition, there was a slight delay in serving dinner, and some guests had to wait longer than expected.
Overall, we were very satisfied with the arrangements, and I would be happy to recommend your hotel to other companies. I hope you will consider these suggestions to make future events even more successful.
Yours faithfully,
Venus

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all bullet points outlined in the task instructions. You provided clear details about the event, such as the date, attendee count, timings, and booked spaces, fulfilling the first requirement. You effectively mentioned what you particularly liked about the hotel, highlighting staff professionalism, spacious and well-equipped conference facilities, and the quality of the food. Furthermore, you suggested areas for improvement, specifically addressing the slow Wi-Fi and a slight delay in serving dinner. The tone is appropriately formal and polite throughout, maintaining the conventions of a business letter to a hotel manager. All parts of the prompt are well-developed and easy to follow, earning a high band score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
Your letter is well-organized with a clear overall progression. The information is logically divided into appropriate paragraphs, starting with a clear purpose, moving into event details and positive feedback, transitioning into areas for improvement, and concluding with a polite sign-off. Cohesive devices are used effectively to guide the reader through your points, such as "At the onset," "Further," and "Lastly." While there is a minor mechanical slip in transitioning with "Lastly, However," this does not significantly detract from the overall flow. Referencing throughout the letter is clear, and paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring the letter reads smoothly from start to finish.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient and flexible range of vocabulary suited to a business letter. You successfully incorporate less common lexical items and collocations, such as "professionalism and helpfulness," "audio-visual facilities," and "convenient location." Word choice is generally precise, and meaning is conveyed without difficulty. While there is a minor spelling error ("dinning" instead of "dining"), this is an isolated slip and does not impede communication. Your ability to vary your vocabulary when discussing both the positive aspects and the areas for improvement shows good control over lexical resources, aligning well with the expectations of this band level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
Your writing displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You demonstrate control over complex forms through clauses introduced by relative pronouns and subordinating conjunctions, such as "that may be useful for your hotel" and "which caused some difficulty during the presentations." The majority of your sentences are error-free, and punctuation is handled well. There are a few very minor slips, such as the lowercase letter in "it included" at the beginning of the second paragraph, but these are infrequent and non-systematic. Grammatical control is strong, allowing the reader to comprehend your message easily and clearly.
