Dear Sir / Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir / madam,

i am writing this letter to you regarding the event that was conducted last week by our company at your venue. As you know already that the event was based on the effects of international trade on a nation's economy and therefore most of our guests came in from different parts of the globe to attend the event.

As your hotel is situated near the airport it was the most suitable choice for us. Also, the vaiety of food that was served at your location offering different delicacys suited our clients perefectly.

Although i would like to bring up an issue which we faced during the event. Many of our guests complainted that at the peak of the event, due to a large number of people being in the conference room at the same time, they felt suffocated as there was not enough ventilation because most of the windows were shut due to renovation at the the top floor.

I would really apprecaite if you please take this into consideration and work on this thing for our upcoming event.

Thanks

Prabhy

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The candidate successfully covers all three parts of the prompt. First, details about the event are provided, mentioning the company, the topic of international trade, and the international guest attendance. Second, positive aspects of the hotel are clearly stated, specifically its convenient location near the airport and the variety of food and delicacies offered. Third, an area for improvement is suggested regarding the poor ventilation in the conference room due to closed windows during renovations. The tone is appropriately formal for a business letter to a hotel manager, and the purpose is clear throughout the text. All bullet points from the instructions are fully addressed, resulting in a solid performance for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a clear overall structure with an appropriate salutation, body paragraphs addressing each prompt requirement, and a proper sign-off. Paragraphing is used logically to separate the introduction, positive feedback, the complaint, and the concluding request. Cohesive devices such as 'Also', 'Although', and 'due to' are utilized to connect ideas, though some transitional links are slightly mechanical or basic. Referencing is generally clear, and the progression of information moves smoothly from context to positive comments, followed by the issue and the final call to action.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey specific details such as 'international trade', 'conference room', and 'ventilation'. There are several spelling and typographical errors, including 'vaiety' instead of 'variety', 'delicacys' instead of 'delicacies', 'perefectly' instead of 'perfectly', 'complainted' instead of 'complained', and 'apprecaite' instead of 'appreciate'. Additionally, capitalization errors such as 'i' instead of 'I' occur. Despite these slips, communication is never impeded, and the range is sufficient to express the necessary ideas and complaints effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'As your hotel is situated near the airport it was the most suitable choice for us' and 'Many of our guests complainted that at the peak of the event... they felt suffocated'. Control over grammar is generally acceptable for this level, though minor punctuation and capitalization issues are present (e.g., missing commas in complex sentences, lowercase 'i'). Complex structures occasionally contain minor awkwardness, but the majority of sentences are understandable and do not impede communication, demonstrating adequate grammatical control.
