Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The candidate addresses all parts of the prompt, successfully covering the details of the event, what was liked about the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The event details are provided, such as stating 'This events was about birthday party and this party theme was blue', and positive aspects are mentioned, including 'I like the decoration and lighting'. Furthermore, an area for improvement is suggested regarding the food arrangement stalls. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and basic. The letter achieves the purpose and maintains an appropriate semi-formal tone overall, aligning best with a Band 5.5 descriptor as the bullet points are covered but remain underdeveloped and lack elaboration.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The letter lacks proper paragraphing, as the entire body of the text is written as a single block of text, which significantly detracts from the visual organisation of the letter. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'that is why', but they are sometimes mechanical or awkwardly placed, as seen in 'so, i write a letter to manager...'. There is an attempt to logically sequence the ideas, moving from event details to positive comments and finally to criticisms, but referencing and transitions lack fluency. Overall, the structural limitations and poor paragraphing place this response firmly in the Band 5 category for cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with several noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'rememberable' instead of memorable, 'familiy', 'satiisfy', and 'becasue'. The range of vocabulary is limited to everyday words like 'popular', 'enjoy', and 'mistake'. While the meaning is generally communicated despite the lexical inaccuracies, the frequency of errors in spelling and collocation prevents the response from achieving a higher band. This demonstrates the characteristics of a Band 5 performance, where the vocabulary is minimally adequate for the task but hindered by frequent noticeable errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent basic grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('this events was', 'stalls which arranged'), tense inconsistencies ('which is organised'), and lowercase personal pronouns ('i'). Punctuation is also problematic, marked by missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences and improper comma splices. Although the meaning can usually be understood, the high frequency of errors across simple and complex forms means that simple sentences are rarely error-free, corresponding to a Band 5.0 score.
