Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this in regards with the information on a recent event which my company organised at your hotel. I would like to request your assistance in considering my suggestions to improve some part of hotel.

The birthday party was organised last week at your hotel. It was based on cool summer theme. This was the event based on things made from best out waste material. Our team tried the level best to create a environment which used all the recycled material. Additionally, guest were so impressed that they took varied decor ideas from us.

The most attractive things which we loved about the hotel is the entrance is well designed and thoughtful. Furthermore, interior lightings are arranged in such a manner that it provides bright internal atmosphere. However, there are few suggestions which I would like to provide you which is if you can arrange sufficient staff then it would be easy to handle bunch of people together. Moreover, the water arrangements were not up to the mark that it can cater everyone's need if you can work on that then it would be greatly appreciated. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt successfully. The student provides details about the corporate event, which was a birthday party based on a cool summer and recycled materials theme. They mention what they liked about the hotel, specifically highlighting the well-designed entrance and thoughtful interior lighting. Furthermore, they successfully suggest areas for improvement, such as arranging sufficient staff to handle large groups and improving water arrangements. The purpose of the letter is clear, and the tone is mostly appropriate for communicating with a hotel manager. However, some ideas, such as the description of the event, feel slightly repetitive and could have been extended with more specific details to fully meet the criteria for higher bands. Overall, the requirements of the task have been addressed adequately, placing this comfortably in the band 6.0 to 6.5 range.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, middle, and end, adhering to the conventional format of a formal letter. Paragraphing is utilised appropriately to separate the introduction, event details, hotel aspects, suggestions, and sign-off. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'Additionally', 'Furthermore', and 'However'. However, some of the cohesive links and referencing feel a bit mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'This was the event based on things made from best out waste material' and 'there are few suggestions which I would like to provide you which is if you can...'. Despite these minor slip-ups in referencing and sentence flow, the overall arrangement is coherent, ensuring the reader can easily follow the sequence of information. Therefore, a solid band 6.0 is awarded for this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. They attempt some less common lexical items, such as 'recycled material', 'atmosphere', and 'appreciated'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text. For instance, writing 'in regards with' instead of 'in regard to' or 'regarding', referring to 'cool summer theme' without an article, and using 'bunch of people' which is overly informal for a letter to a hotel manager. Additionally, phrases like 'best out waste material' lack appropriate prepositions and articles. While these lexical errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the score from reaching a higher band. The vocabulary used is minimally sufficient to convey the intended meaning, matching the descriptors for band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar and punctuation. Examples of complex structures include 'I am writing this in regards with the information on a recent event which my company organised...' and 'Should you any further questions, please feel free to reach out...'. However, there are several grammatical errors and omissions. For example, there is a missing auxiliary verb in 'Should you [have] any further questions', an unnecessary preposition in 'improve some part of hotel' (missing article), and an awkward relative clause in 'the water arrangements were not up to the mark that it can cater everyone's need'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while errors occur, they rarely impede communication. The control over grammar aligns well with the band 6.0 descriptors.
