Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/ Madam

I am writing this letter regarding the party that my company held at your hotel. We all really enjoyed the time there but there are some areas for improvement as well.

Actually, it was a event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of my workplace- Day & Ross Truck company. The event took place on Sunday, September 13, 2026 from 5 pm to midnight.

The best thing about the hotel that I appreciate is the space. The hotel is very big that even it fit 500 people, more than we expected. Moreover, the organization and decoration was stunning. The style of chairs, tables, stage and flowers made the event more memorable and interesting.

However, the worst thing about the hotel was the bathrooms. There are only two bathrooms for the guests which is very inconvenient. Also, they are not maintained properly because they were so dirty and appliances were falling apart.

I suggest the management to construct more restrooms and should have a proper team to look after cleaning.

Yours sincerely

Navneet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The candidate has successfully covered all three bullet points required in the task instructions. First, details about the event are clearly provided, including the occasion (the 50th anniversary of Day & Ross Truck company) and the exact date and time. Second, the positive aspects of the hotel are mentioned, specifically praising the spaciousness that accommodated over 500 people, along with the stunning organization, decoration, and furniture style. Third, areas for improvement are effectively highlighted, drawing attention to the inadequate number of bathrooms, their poor maintenance, and dirty condition. Finally, a practical suggestion is made to the management regarding restroom construction and cleaning teams. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, fulfilling all requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is clearly organized with a logical progression of ideas from introduction to event details, positive aspects, negative aspects, and finally suggestions. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate each distinct point, ensuring the structure is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'Actually', 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Also' are employed effectively to connect sentences and paragraphs, though some transitions are slightly formulaic. Referencing throughout the letter is clear, and the overall arrangement maintains coherence from beginning to end, meeting the standard for a solid band 7.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate and appropriate for a general correspondence task. The writer demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary with terms like 'anniversary', 'inconvenient', 'stunning', and 'management'. However, there are minor lexical inaccuracies, such as using 'a event' instead of 'an event', and 'appliances were falling apart' where 'fixtures' or 'facilities' would be more natural collocations for bathrooms. Less common items are attempted with some awareness of style, but occasional word-choice slips keep this criterion at a band 6.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over basic structures. Examples such as 'The hotel is very big that even it fit 500 people' contain grammatical errors ('that even it fit' should be 'that it could fit'), and there is a missing article in 'it was a event'. However, many sentences are error-free, and complex structures are attempted with reasonable success, such as in the opening and closing paragraphs. Punctuation and tense control are generally good, with minor errors that do not impede communication, placing the response comfortably within the band 6.0 to 6.5 range.
