Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully provided details about the event mentioning the Commons hotel, stated what you particularly liked about the hotel such as 'the arrangements' and good decorations, and suggested areas for improvement regarding stage decoration and food/water facilities. However, the length requirement of 150 words was not met, as your response contains only 140 words, which has a negative impact on the overall task achievement score. Furthermore, while the ideas are relevant, some parts like the opening description are slightly repetitive and under-developed. To achieve a higher band, ensure you comfortably exceed the minimum word count and expand slightly more on each point.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The letter lacks proper paragraphing, as the entire response is written as a single dense block of text. This makes the progression of ideas harder to follow. While basic cohesive devices and conjunctions like 'and' are used to connect clauses, the sentences often run together without adequate punctuation, such as in the sentence starting with 'an event which is which was organized...'. There is also no clear division into standard letter paragraphs (salutation, introduction, body paragraphs, and sign-off). To improve, you should separate your ideas into distinct paragraphs for each bullet point and use a wider variety of cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is basic and repetitive, utilizing common words such as 'hotel', 'good', and 'nice'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'amount hotel' (which appears to be a typo or misuse) and 'most thing that I really liked' instead of 'main thing' or 'aspect'. You also make several self-corrections or repetitions within the text, such as 'an event which is which was organized'. The range of vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey your basic message, but it does not demonstrate less common or sophisticated lexical items suitable for higher bands. Focusing on precise vocabulary and accurate collocations will significantly improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The text suffers from a lack of punctuation, resulting in run-on sentences. For instance, the entire middle section from 'an event' down to 'serve the guests' is essentially one very long, poorly punctuated sentence. You rely heavily on simple coordination with 'and' rather than demonstrating a mix of complex sentence structures with accurate subordination. There are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'the serve the guests'. Although the meaning can generally be understood despite the errors, the lack of control over basic punctuation and sentence boundaries pulls this score down into the Band 5 range.
