Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to express my experience which i optained after helping the company to organise an event at a hotel.

The grand venue hotel was a perfect place to have our company's demonstration about the recently achievable target and to showcase our upcoming market strategies. The duration of event was exact same as we planned in our last town hall meeting.

The location of hotel was a decent place because of its surroundings of natural environment which interacted me a lot in positive way. Moreover, the management and all staff members were very polite and expirenced to provide a high standard customer service.

However, some areas need to be improved for future events. To intance, as we booked the hotel with all facilities but the taxi and bus service should be provide by management of hotel as some of our employees did not have private means of transtport, so for next time either hotel should be booked with tranportation facility or it should be inside the city which make travel easy for all the attendies of event.

Best regards,

Baldeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the task prompt. The writer provides specific details about the event, mentioning its purpose as a company demonstration regarding achievable targets and market strategies. Furthermore, the writer clearly identifies what was liked about the hotel, highlighting the natural surrounding environment and the polite, experienced staff. Suggestions for improvement are also clearly articulated, focusing on transportation services and hotel location for future events. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter, maintaining a clear purpose throughout. Although some ideas could be extended further, all parts of the prompt are addressed adequately, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0. Given the successful coverage of all three bullet points, a Band 6.0 is slightly modest, while a Band 7.0 is well supported by the clear outlining of details, positives, and constructive criticisms.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter exhibits a clear and logical overall arrangement. The response is divided into logical paragraphs, with an opening greeting, an introduction, separate body paragraphs for event details and positive aspects, a distinct paragraph for areas of improvement, and an appropriate sign-off. Cohesive devices are used to link ideas, such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'To instance'. However, there are some minor mechanical issues with cohesion, such as the misspelling 'To intance' instead of 'For instance', and referencing is occasionally slightly awkward. Despite these minor flaws, the organization is coherent, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the letter, supporting a solid Band 6.0 or 6.5 descriptor profile.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as 'demonstration', 'strategies', and 'surroundings'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that detract from precision, such as 'optained' instead of 'obtained', 'expirenced' instead of 'experienced', 'interacted me' instead of 'attracted me', and 'attendies' instead of 'attendees'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they demonstrate a lack of firm control over less common vocabulary and spelling conventions. The lexical range is sufficient for the task and meets the criteria for Band 6.0, as the vocabulary is adequate to convey the intended message despite the mechanical slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in grammatical structures. There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'which i optained' (capitalisation and past tense/verb choice error), 'The duration of event' (missing article), 'The location of hotel' (missing article), and 'transportation facility or it should be inside the city which make travel easy' (subject-verb agreement error with 'make' instead of 'makes'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede communication. The control over grammar represents a standard mix of simple and complex forms with recurring errors, aligning closely with the Band 6 descriptors.
