Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr.Tom,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter regarding my recent experience with your hotel and I believe my letter will assist you to make some changes in your hotel services.
Recently on 12th September my child care owner organized a 5oth anniversary event in your hotel. I stayed in your hotel for two days to attend that event. The event was for child care called 'Little Bloomers' and it was hosted in hall number 201.
During mu stay I noticed your hotel provide me great accomodation services. The rooms are well equiped and food taste was amazing. I really feel greatful about cleaning services provided by your hotel staff. Moreover, on the event day they were so careful about any special dietry requirements.
But there are some areas I feel you need to give your attention such as reception area. I noticed reception staff were not available in the night time and it can create challenge for guest if they have any emergency situation.I also noticed on event day there were not sufficient chairs for guests in main hall.
I hope you will improve your reception and hall area services by adding more staff. I will appreciate your support and consideration.
Yours Sincerely,
Javel Ame.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt successfully. You provided details about the event, such as the 50th anniversary for 'Little Bloomers' in hall number 201 on 12th September. You also mentioned what you liked, specifically the accommodation services, well-equipped rooms, amazing food, and helpful cleaning staff. Additionally, you successfully suggested areas for improvement, focusing on the reception staff availability at night and the lack of sufficient chairs in the main hall. The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint or feedback letter to a hotel manager, and the purpose is clearly communicated throughout. This meets the requirements for a Band 7.0 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a clear, logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from the introductory purpose of the letter to event details, positive aspects, areas for improvement, and a polite sign-off. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'During my stay', 'Moreover', and 'But', though some transitional phrasing feels slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, and referencing (such as 'they were so careful' and 'it can create challenge') is generally clear and easy to follow. This earns a solid Band 6.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'dietry requirements', 'accomodation', and 'emergency situation'. However, there are some noticeable spelling errors, such as 'accomodation' instead of accommodation, 'equiped' instead of equipped, 'greatful' instead of grateful, and 'dietry' instead of dietary. Word choice is mostly appropriate and communicates your meaning clearly without impeding the reader, though expressions like 'child care owner' are slightly unnatural in this context. These errors place your lexical score at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I am writing this letter regarding my recent experience with your hotel and I believe my letter will assist you...' and 'I noticed reception staff were not available in the night time and it can create challenge for guest...'. There are several grammatical errors and omissions, such as missing articles ('at night time' instead of at night time, 'create challenge' instead of create a challenge, 'for guest' instead of for guests) and minor tense inconsistencies. However, these errors are non-systematic and rarely impede overall communication. This performance aligns well with Band 6.0.
