Dear Sir / Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter to share my insights about your hotel as i recently organised an promotional event of my company Elite Residential Concierge at your hotel. It was an annual event, which takes place at the same time of the year.

First of all, i want to you say thanks to you for helping in managing everything and all the support your staff has given to make it successful. Apart from it, the location, ambience and the amenities of your hotel is well planned and established. It has enough space for people to cater their large parties and meetings. Even the windows are too large and enough in number that the lighting in the hall was pretty good. The president of my company really like this space and asked to organise further events at your place.

However, there was a little thing which i want to mention here was the food quality. The time they served the food was not appropriate and the food gets cold when people started having it. So, Please take this suggestion in consideration for the next time.

Yours Faithfully

Kamal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the prompt. You provided details about the event, mentioning that it was an annual promotional event for 'Elite Residential Concierge' held at the hotel. You also highlighted what you particularly liked, specifically praising the location, ambience, amenities, and large windows that provided good lighting. Furthermore, you suggested areas for improvement by pointing out the issue with the food quality and the fact that it was served too late and grew cold. The tone is appropriately formal and polite for a business letter to a manager. All parts of the task are adequately addressed, resulting in a solid performance for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter features clear logical organisation and progression. You started with an appropriate salutation and opening statement, followed by distinct paragraphs for the event details, positive aspects, and areas for improvement, concluding with a standard sign-off. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'First of all', 'Apart from it', and 'However', which help guide the reader through your points. While some of the transitions and referencing could be slightly more polished—such as 'the food gets cold' mixing tenses—the overall arrangement is coherent, logical, and easy to follow throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrated an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'insights', 'promotional event', 'ambience', and 'amenities'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'share my insights about your hotel as i recently organised an promotional event' (where 'an' should be 'a' and 'insights' is slightly unnatural for a feedback letter) and 'cater their large parties'. There are also recurrent lowercase 'i' pronouns which affect overall lexical and grammatical polish. Nevertheless, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response includes a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses ('which takes place at the same time') and conditional-like ideas. However, there are frequent minor grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout. Most notably, the first-person pronoun 'i' is consistently left lowercase. Other errors include 'an promotional event', 'want to you say thanks', 'the amenities of your hotel is' (subject-verb agreement error with plural 'amenities'), and tense shifting in 'the food gets cold when people started having it'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the score from reaching the higher bands.
