Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I hope you are doing well. I am from Vital Medical Associates. On 15th of September, 2026 my company held a professional workshop for the employees at the Royal Palace hotel. I was the event organiser, mainly responsible for managing the logistics.

I am writing this to share the feedback with you on the behalf of our whole company. I would like to express that our overall experience was incredible. The guests particularly enjoyed the refreshment that was served at the end of the event. The food was fresh and tasted delicious. Moreover, the seating arrangement was exactly the way we had requested and the venue was clean. We had a great experience conducting the workshop at the Royal Palace hotel.

One thing that disappointed us was the air conditioning in the hall. The air conditioners stopped working in the middle of the event which left our guests feeling uncomfortable and upset. I hope you will look into this matter and will take measures to improve this area.

I hope you will take it as a constructive feedback.

Thank you once again for your services.

Yours faithfully,

Noorulain

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response fully covers all bullet points required by the prompt in a natural and appropriate tone for a formal business letter. You successfully provided details about the event, mentioning that your company held a professional workshop for employees at the Royal Palace hotel on the 15th of September, 2026. You clearly highlighted what you particularly liked about the venue by complimenting the fresh and delicious food, the excellent refreshments served at the end of the event, the accurate seating arrangement, and the overall cleanliness. Furthermore, you effectively suggested areas for improvement by addressing the malfunctioning air conditioning system in the hall, which left guests uncomfortable. The purpose of the letter is clear, and the tone is polite and professional throughout. The response satisfies all criteria for a Band 8 performance in Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, middle, and end, following standard letter-writing conventions. Information is presented in a progressive manner: the opening states the purpose and details of the event, the second paragraph details the positive aspects, the third highlights the complaint and suggestion for improvement, and the final paragraphs provide a polite sign-off. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating distinct ideas effectively. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'One thing that disappointed us' are used naturally to guide the reader through the text. Referencing is clear and unambiguous. Overall, the structural flow is smooth and well-managed, earning a solid Band 8 score for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

Your vocabulary range is generally adequate and appropriate for a business correspondence task. You successfully employ functional phrases such as 'professional workshop', 'managing the logistics', 'overall experience was incredible', and 'constructive feedback'. There are minor issues with word choice, such as writing 'on the behalf of' instead of the standard collocation 'on behalf of', and adding an unnecessary definite article in 'at the Royal Palace hotel' after having already named it. However, these inaccuracies do not impede communication, and you manage to convey your ideas with sufficient precision. The vocabulary meets the criteria for Band 6.5, but because IELTS scoring uses whole or half-band increments, this is appropriately rounded to a Band 7.0 for demonstrating sufficient range and appropriate tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'On 15th of September, 2026 my company held a professional workshop...' and 'The air conditioners stopped working in the middle of the event which left our guests feeling uncomfortable and upset.' There are a few minor grammatical and punctuation slips, such as missing the definite article before '15th of September' and omitting a comma before the relative clause ('event which left...'). Additionally, 'feedback' is an uncountable noun, so writing 'a constructive feedback' is technically incorrect. Despite these minor errors, the majority of your sentences are error-free, and grammar does not impede communication. This performance aligns well with the Band 7 descriptors for grammatical control.
