Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am Noorulain from Vital Medical Associates. On the 15th of September, 2026 my company held a professional workshop for the employees at the Royal Palace Hotel. I was the event organiser, mainly responsible for managing the logistics.
I am writing this to share feedback with you on behalf of our whole company. I would like to express that our overall experience was incredible. The guests particularly enjoyed the refreshment that was served at the end of the event. The food was fresh and tasted delicious. Moreover, the seating arrangement was exactly the way we had requested and the venue was clean. We had a great experience conducting the workshop at the Royal Palace Hotel.
One thing that disappointed us was the air conditioning in the hall. The air conditioners stopped working in the middle of the event which left our guests feeling uncomfortable and upset. I hope you will look into this matter and will take measures to improve this area.
I hope you will take it as constructive feedback.
Thank you once again for your services.
Yours faithfully,
Noorulain

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response fully satisfies all bullet points of the task instructions. The student successfully provides details about the event, mentioning the date, location, company name, and specific purpose in sentences such as, "On the 15th of September, 2026 my company held a professional workshop for the employees at the Royal Palace Hotel." Furthermore, positive aspects are clearly articulated, noting that "the seating arrangement was exactly the way we had requested and the venue was clean." The letter also effectively addresses areas for improvement by highlighting the failure of the air conditioning. The tone is appropriately formal and polite throughout, successfully meeting the functional requirements of a general training correspondence task at a Band 7.0 level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter exhibits clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Ideas are grouped into logical paragraphs: an introduction identifying the writer and event, a body paragraph detailing the positive experiences, another body paragraph outlining the complaint, and a courteous closing. Cohesive devices are used naturally, with transitional phrases such as "Moreover" and "One thing that disappointed us" guiding the reader smoothly through the text. Referencing is clear and paragraphing is managed appropriately and sufficiently for a short functional letter. This performance aligns comfortably with the Band 7 descriptors for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate and appropriate lexical range for the task, successfully incorporating functional professional vocabulary such as "professional workshop," "logistics," "constructive feedback," and "arrangement." Word choice is generally precise, and collocation is natural, as seen in expressions like "express that our overall experience was incredible." While the vocabulary is not overly sophisticated or ambitious, it is entirely functional and accurate, allowing the message to be communicated clearly without noticeable errors in spelling or word formation, comfortably achieving a Band 6.5 score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including relative clauses and subordinate clauses (e.g., "that was served at the end of the event" and "which left our guests feeling uncomfortable and upset"). Grammatical control is generally strong; the majority of sentences are accurate and punctuation is handled correctly. Although minor improvements could be made to phrasing elegance, there are no systematic errors that impede communication. The use of past and present tenses is consistent and accurate throughout, securing a solid Band 7.0 for grammatical range and accuracy.
