Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am Noorulain from Vital Medical Associates. On the 15th of September, 2026 my company held a professional workshop for the employees at the Royal Palace Hotel. I was the event organiser, mainly responsible for managing the logistics.
I am writing this to share feedback with you on behalf of our whole company. I would like to express that our overall experience was incredible. The guests particularly enjoyed the refreshment that was served at the end of the event. The food was fresh and tasted delicious. Moreover, the seating arrangement was exactly the way we had requested and the venue was clean. We had a great experience conducting the workshop at the Royal Palace Hotel.
One thing that disappointed us was the air conditioning in the hall. The air conditioners stopped working in the middle of the event which left our guests feeling uncomfortable and upset. I hope you will look into this matter and will take measures to improve this area.
I hope you will take it as constructive feedback.
Thank you once again for your services.
Yours faithfully,
Noorulain

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the prompt in a professional and polite tone appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The student provides specific details about the event, mentioning the date of the 15th of September 2026, the venue at the Royal Palace Hotel, and the nature of the workshop. Furthermore, the writer clearly highlights what was liked, such as the fresh and delicious refreshments and the accurate seating arrangement. Constructive criticism regarding the air conditioning failure in the middle of the event is effectively communicated as an area for improvement. The purpose of the letter is clear from the outset, and the format is fully appropriate. Ideas are well-supported, earning a solid Band 7.0 for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter exhibits a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph serves a distinct purpose: the opening introduces the context and writer, the second paragraph details the positive feedback, the third outlines the complaint, and the final paragraphs provide a polite sign-off. Cohesive devices are used appropriately, such as 'Moreover', 'One thing that', and 'Furthermore' (implied in structure), ensuring smooth transitions between ideas. Paragraphing is handled logically and sufficiently for a short transactional letter. Referencing is clear, and the overall arrangement is coherent. This performance comfortably aligns with the Band 7.0 descriptors for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, successfully conveying precise meaning with terms like 'professional workshop', 'logistics', 'constructive feedback', and 'refreshment'. There is some flexibility in word choice, such as using 'disappointed us' and 'uncomfortable and upset'. While the vocabulary is generally standard and appropriate rather than highly sophisticated or ambitious, it is used accurately with no spelling errors that impede communication. The lexical control is solid and meets the criteria for a Band 6.5, providing adequate resources to handle the communicative requirements effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response features a good mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including relative clauses and subordinate clauses (e.g., 'On the 15th of September, 2026 my company held a professional workshop for the employees at the Royal Palace Hotel' and 'The air conditioners stopped working in the middle of the event which left our guests feeling uncomfortable and upset'). Grammatical control is strong, with the majority of sentences being error-free. Punctuation is generally well managed, and minor slips do not impede communication in any way. This demonstrates a level of grammatical accuracy and structural variety that fits the Band 7.0 descriptor well.
