Dear Sir / Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
With great concern, I want to state regarding the decision of my company to organise an event at your hotel.
This is basically a workshop on digital gamification by using a sofware which has been introduced by my company. There are 20 participants and duration is about six hours with one tea break only. The first activity will be started at 9am sharp and certificates will be distributed in the end by a renowned chief officer.
I selected your hotel because of its prime location. Participants could approach it easily. Moreover, the seating arrangement, advanced audio-visual system and festive menu for tea break are the facilities, appreciated by our team.
However, the hotel management is cooperative, I would suggest you to provide flexibility in timings as well as security. As some partcipants would be from out of station and need travel time to accomodate. I would be grateful if you could understand this situation and give us positive response. I look forward to hearing from your side at the earliest convenience.
Regards

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required in the task prompt. You clearly provided details about the event, mentioning that it was a workshop on digital gamification for 20 participants lasting six hours. You also mentioned what you particularly liked about the hotel, such as the prime location, seating arrangements, and advanced audio-visual system. Furthermore, you suggested areas for improvement, specifically regarding timing flexibility and security for out-of-town participants. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter to a hotel manager, and all aspects of the prompt are adequately addressed, leading to a solid performance in this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into clear, logical paragraphs that separate the introduction, event details, positive aspects, and suggestions for improvement. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and referencing pronouns are used to connect ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of information is generally logical and easy to follow, moving from the context of the event to your appraisal and finally to your requests. However, paragraphing and overall logical flow could be a bit smoother to reach the higher bands.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary appropriate for a business communication context, such as 'renowned chief officer', 'prime location', and 'festive menu'. There are some awkward word choices and collocation errors, such as saying 'With great concern, I want to state regarding' and 'the first activity will be started', which detract slightly from precision. However, the vocabulary is adequate to convey your message clearly without impeding communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter includes a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and relative clauses. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, including 'a sofware which has been introduced' (passive voice misuse and spelling error), 'duration is about six hours' (missing article), and 'As some partcipants would be from out of station and need travel time to accomodate' (fragmented dependent clause and spelling errors). While these errors do not impede overall comprehension, their frequency prevents the assignment of a higher band score.
