Dear Sir / Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you well and in good health. I am writing you this letter for an event which I would like to organize at your hotel as the hotel has nice spacious guest rooms, a big swimming pool, a luxurious vibe and great service. The event which I would like to have is for my friend's birthday party as he is turning 25 and also getting married next year. The hotel has such a nice view from each guest rooms which makes the stay more aesthetic, the pool has waves which makes it more enjoyable, the staff is more helpful with all the organizations and all.
The areas which I found to be improved are the poolside cleanup as the area is not being kept cleaned and dry which might create an accident. Also, if there was a DJ system and lightings near the pool, that would make the pool much more enjoyable for the adults during evening and night times.
If you could please take this improvements into the consideration, would be much appreciated and convince me more to organize this birthday party at your hotel as everything else is great.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Hope to see you soon and hear from you soon.
Yours truly.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response presents a slight contradiction regarding the prompt scenario. The instructions state that you 'recently helped your company organise an event at a hotel', but the student writes about an event 'which I would like to organize' for a friend's birthday party. Despite this mismatch with the prompt persona, all three bullet points are addressed: details about the event are given (friend's 25th birthday and upcoming wedding), what was liked about the hotel is mentioned (spacious rooms, pool, view, service), and areas for improvement are suggested (poolside cleanup and adding a DJ system). To achieve a higher band, the response should have adopted the correct roleplay persona of organizing a company event rather than a personal one.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical sequence from the introduction of the hotel features to the critique and closing remarks. Paragraphing is used to separate the positive aspects from the areas for improvement. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or repetitive, such as the overuse of 'which makes it' and phrases like 'all the organizations and all'. Cohesive devices are functional rather than flexible, but the letter is easy to follow overall.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating some less common items such as 'luxurious vibe', 'aesthetic', and 'consideration'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'the area is not being kept cleaned and dry' (instead of clean), 'take this improvements into the consideration' (instead of these improvements into consideration), and 'all the organizations and all'. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to a Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambitious structures such as 'if there was a DJ system and lightings near the pool, that would make the pool much more enjoyable'. However, grammatical errors are frequent throughout the text, including tense and preposition issues ('writing you this letter for an event', 'from each guest rooms', 'take this improvements'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while the errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's overall understanding.
