Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to thank you for making our event memorable. All the arrangements were perfectly timed and executed.

We booked the venue last week to celebrate our company's 5th anniversary where GM was also invited. Moreover, hotel was provided us complimentary pickup and dropoff service for him.Everything started with a small presentation , 2 hours dinner and a small performance by staff.I really enjoyed the food as I am vegetarian so for me food id all about made clean and seperated , the staff made sure that for every item there is a separate area and all the sides are covered. Also, the blue decor looked amazing where the flowers were fresh snd not artificial.

On the contrary, I did not like the DJ as it seemed boring and unprofessional , he was trying yo play all the dad or non-famous songs which literally killed the vibe for the first 40 minutes, but when we guided him with a correct playlist then the dance floor was on fire, and every one of us enjoyed it.

I thank you for your services and hope DJ will improve for our future bookings.

Yours sincerely,

AJ

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response covers all the bullet points required in the task instructions. You successfully provided details about the event, such as the company's 5th anniversary celebration, the presentation, dinner, and staff performance. You also highlighted what you liked about the hotel, mentioning the complimentary pickup and drop-off service, the clean and separated vegetarian food area, and the fresh blue decor. Furthermore, you suggested areas for improvement by addressing the initial issues with the DJ's playlist. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. Ideas are fully relevant and directly address the prompt requirements, earning a solid score for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter maintains a clear overall progression and logical organisation throughout. It begins with an appropriate opening salutation and an expression of gratitude, moves smoothly into event details, positive aspects, and constructive criticisms, and concludes with a polite sign-off. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate different themes, such as event details versus areas for improvement. Cohesive devices are employed reasonably well, although some transitional phrases like 'Moreover' and 'On the contrary' are slightly mechanical or used with minor punctuation issues. Overall, the text is easy to follow and coherent.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'complimentary', 'professional', and 'decor'. However, there are several word choice, collocation, and spelling errors that slightly lower the precision. For instance, writing 'hotel was provided us' contains a grammatical and lexical mismatch, 'food id all about made clean and seperated' has unnatural phrasing and a spelling error ('seperated' instead of separated), and 'snd' is misspelled. Despite these errors, communication is not impeded, and the vocabulary remains minimally sufficient to convey your message clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. You successfully incorporate compound and complex structures, such as relative clauses and conditional-like contrast sentences ('when we guided him with a correct playlist then the dance floor was on fire'). However, there are persistent grammatical errors and punctuation slips, including run-on sentences and comma splices (e.g., 'Everything started with a small presentation , 2 hours dinner and a small performance by staff' and 'he was trying yo play all the dad or non-famous songs which literally killed the vibe'). While these errors do not impede overall comprehension, they prevent the grammar score from reaching higher bands.
