Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing this letter in response of our company's recent event held at your hotel on last Friday. I would like to provide you a feedback on your great service provided by your team.

During the event all the arrangements were perfectly done. Also our guest were extremely delighted by seating area in the conference room. Moreover, our team and other guest were very impressed by the receptionist warm welcome upon our arrival .

However, There were few minor things that we noticed were not suitable for our guest and cause dissapointment to us was food. It observed by our team that food was served cold by your staff and not properly labelled as well. This cause trouble to vegetarian guest and those who having allergies.

Therefore, for future event I would like to suggest you proper lablleing of food to avoid confusions among guest. Additionally, try to serve food close to meal time will maintain its taste and temprature.

I hope

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The student successfully covers all bullet points required in the task instructions. The letter begins with the appropriate greeting and provides specific details about the event, such as the date and the great service provided. It clearly mentions what was liked about the hotel, highlighting the seating area in the conference room and the receptionist's warm welcome. Furthermore, it outlines areas for improvement by discussing the cold and poorly labelled food, and offers practical suggestions for future events. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a hotel manager. Although there are some grammatical slips that slightly affect precision, all aspects of the prompt are fully and clearly addressed, warranting a solid band score for task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter exhibits a clear logical organisation and overall progression. The response is divided into logical paragraphs, each addressing a different aspect of the prompt: introduction, positive aspects, negative aspects with consequences, and suggestions for the future. Cohesive devices such as 'Also', 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Additionally' are used to connect ideas, although some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate the different points. While referencing is generally clear, occasional awkward phrasing slightly disrupts the seamless flow of ideas, placing it firmly in the band 6 to 7 range. Overall, the structure is easy to follow and meets the descriptors for clear logical organisation.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating key concepts about event organisation, hospitality, and catering. Phrases like 'extremely delighted', 'warm welcome', and 'minor things' are used appropriately. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as writing 'in response of' instead of 'in response to', 'provide you a feedback' instead of 'provide you with feedback', and misspelling 'dissapointment' and 'lablleing'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with mixed success. The range is sufficient for the task and communication is not impeded, but the frequency of lexical and spelling errors prevents the score from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as using subordinate clauses with 'although' and relative clauses, though control is inconsistent. There are several noticeable grammatical errors throughout the text, including preposition errors ('in response of'), missing articles ('seating area', 'receptionist warm welcome'), and subject-verb agreement or tense issues ('It observed by our team that food was served...'). Additionally, run-on structures and punctuation issues appear, as seen in 'cause dissapointment to us was food.' Despite these errors, the meaning remains comprehensible and communication is rarely impeded. The presence of frequent minor errors alongside a decent mix of structures aligns with the band 6 descriptors.
