Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir,
I recently organised a weeding event in your hotel with my company. We setup all the sitting area for 100 guests and a seprate location for groom and bride to cut cake, bar, buffet tables. The stage were also managed to dance and take photos with couple.
My most favourite thing which I liked about your hotel is that it was fully furnished. According to people's chocie there was everything avalable like restrooms, health care facilities in emergancy , connectivity, banquet team. Everyone enjoyed the function alot.
On the other hand, There were some problems which I liked to share you should improve. First of all the area should be little more big to adjust the tables and chairs for people. I recommended the lighting system would be better because we faced difficulty to take clear pictures and more effective lights could be installed.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. First, details about the event are provided, mentioning that it was organised for a company with 100 guests, including specific arrangements such as a seating area, cake-cutting location, bar, buffet tables, and a stage. Second, positive aspects of the hotel are mentioned, specifically that it was fully furnished with useful facilities like restrooms and emergency healthcare. Third, areas for improvement are suggested, such as increasing the room size and upgrading the lighting system for better photography. The tone is appropriate for a business correspondence letter to a hotel manager. All parts of the prompt are addressed adequately, leading to a solid performance for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs that separate the introduction, positive feedback, and areas for improvement. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'First of all' and 'On the other hand'. However, referencing and progression are occasionally clunky or awkward, such as the transition into the second paragraph ('My most favourite thing which I liked'). Paragraphing is present and generally appropriate, but the overall flow and mechanical nature of some cohesive links keep the score at this level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with attempts at less common lexical items such as 'fully furnished', 'emergency', and 'connectivity'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'weeding' instead of 'wedding', 'seprate' instead of 'separate', 'chocie' instead of 'choice', 'avalable' instead of 'available', 'emergancy' instead of 'emergency', and 'sencrely' instead of 'sincerely'. Additionally, phrases like 'little more big' are basic and detract from lexical flexibility. These errors cause some distraction but do not impede overall communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'My most favourite thing which I liked about your hotel is that it was fully furnished.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including 'We setup all the sitting area' (incorrect tense and noun form), 'The stage were also managed' (incorrect subject-verb agreement and voice), and 'I liked to share you should improve' (missing relative pronoun or prepositional phrasing). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma splices and missing capitals at the beginning of sentences like 'On the other hand, There were...'. These errors require effort from the reader but do not completely obscure the meaning.
