Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my gratitude towards your brilliant and helpful staff for their untiring effort to make our company's newest product's launch event a perfect one.
Last week, our company booked your entire hotel for the launch event of our latest smart phone in the market. There were total of 300 guests who were invited and almost 100 walk-ins just for the Saturday main event that happened in hotel's seminar room
I was totally surprised by the adhoc arrangments your staff did for the unplanned 100 guests. The seminar was spacious and clean, most importantly, the temperature was maintained according to the weather. The greatest appreciation is due on food management. Food served was warm, fresh and delicious. ood, specifically the prawns in the started.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student covers all parts of the prompt by providing details about the event (a product launch for 300 guests with 100 walk-ins), mentioning what they liked (spacious seminar room, maintained temperature, and warm, fresh food), and attempting to suggest areas for improvement. However, the response trails off incompletely at the end with 'the composive hna para hai', failing to fully articulate the improvement. Furthermore, the length check confirms the response contains 147 words, falling short of the 150-word minimum requirement. Consequently, the task has only been partially addressed due to the incomplete ending and the word count penalty.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter begins with an appropriate formal salutation ('Dear Sir / Madam,') and attempts a logical progression from expressing gratitude to giving event details, highlighting positive aspects, and transitioning to improvements using 'However'. However, the organisation breaks down completely in the final paragraph due to incomplete sentences and fragmented thoughts. Paragraphing is also somewhat disrupted by the sudden shift into unstructured notes at the end. Cohesive devices are used initially ('Last week', 'most importantly'), but referencing and overall flow become severely compromised by the abrupt termination of the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully employing functional terms such as 'express my gratitude', 'untiring effort', and 'adhoc arrangements'. There are some vocabulary and spelling errors, such as 'adhoc arrangments', 'started' instead of starters, and 'evey' instead of every. The attempt to use less common lexical items shows promise, but inaccuracies in word choice and the incomplete vocabulary range at the end limit the overall lexical score. Communication is occasionally impeded by these errors and the unfinished conclusion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I am writing this letter to express my gratitude towards your brilliant and helpful staff for their untiring effort...'. There are several grammatical and mechanical errors throughout the text, including punctuation omissions and spelling mistakes like 'hotel's seminar room' missing an apostrophe, and fragmented sentence structures near the end ('Food, specifically the prawns in the started' and 'However evey arrangement was perfectly managed, I still belive...'). Because of the abrupt ending and recurring errors, the control of grammar is limited, though simpler sentences are generally accurate.
