Student answer (Band 6.0)

DEAR CHRIS SIR

The following letter is intended to inform you about the barbecue party that we held on 31st of october, at the hotel's party hall located at top floor.

The list of positives that I observed is immense, but, I will shortlist the most spectacular ones here for you. first and foremost, as the party hall is situated at the top during the nightime, the presence of moon and stars view was one of the best feature at the event, creating an joyfull and extremely beautiful portait of nature's beauty. secondly, the food served offered delightful taste and vast diversity of various culture such as indian , italian ,mexican and so on. and you can't forget the spectacular music played by DJ.

overall, the whole experience was wonderful, but, we can improve in terms of decoration and timing. discussing about the decoration first only roses were used, whereas, we cn incoperate the other beauties such as lily and lotus. and the timing was a bit concern as the party was started around midnight, it stayed for short time, the period of thrill can be doubled, if it has started around evening.

THANKS

Regards

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student has successfully covered all parts of the task prompt. The letter is addressed to the hotel manager and provides details about a barbecue party held on the 31st of October at the hotel's party hall. Furthermore, the response successfully highlights aspects that the writer particularly liked, such as the rooftop views and the diverse food options. Finally, constructive areas for improvement are suggested, specifically regarding the decoration choices and the timing of the event. The tone is semi-formal and generally appropriate for a business correspondence context, and ideas are adequately developed to satisfy the communication purpose. This aligns well with the requirements for Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear chronological flow from the event details to the positives and finally the suggestions. However, the paragraphing and mechanical transitions are somewhat faulty. The salutation is unconventional, and the body of the text collapses multiple distinct points into a single dense paragraph without sufficient separation. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or overused, such as 'first and foremost', 'secondly', and 'overall', and referencing is occasionally unclear. Despite these structural flaws, the information is logically sequenced and easy to follow, supporting a solid Band 6.0 score.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting less common items such as 'immense', 'spectacular', and 'incoperate'. However, there are notable word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors, such as 'nightime', 'joyfull', 'portait', 'cn', and 'incoperate'. These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight an inconsistent control of lexical features. The use of repetitive phrases and informal colloquialisms like 'you can't forget' limits the precision of the writing. Overall, the lexical resource fits the Band 6.0 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in punctuation, capitalization, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions. Examples include 'at top floor' instead of 'on the top floor', 'the presence of moon and stars view was one of the best feature', and 'the party was started around midnight, it stayed for short time', which results in a comma splice. While these errors occur regularly throughout the text, they rarely impede overall communication, placing the response firmly at Band 5.5.
