Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing today to express my appreciation regarding the event, our company hosted in your hotel.
Last week, our organisation hosted a skill enhancement event for the selected employees in your hotel. The event took place exactly on 23rd September, 2026 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. We also booked your catering service for drinks and dinner.
All the attendees along with our company's director is statisfied with the amenties your hotel provided us during the session such as mics, projector, coffee, and dinner. If I talk about a particular thing, everyone loved the ambiance and lighting of your conference room.
Despite all these, I think there are some areas you need to focus on. First of all, you assigned us a limited number of staff members for service. Secondly, your Wi-Fi connection is slow, as it took a lot of time in processing presentations. Apart from this, everything is up to the mark.
Thank you for providing such a wonderful service and I hope you will take my suggestions into consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Rajveer Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The candidate has successfully covered all three bullet points required in the prompt. First, detailed information about the event is provided, including the specific date (23rd September, 2026), timing (2 p.m. to 8 p.m.), and catering services booked. Second, the student mentions what they particularly liked about the hotel, highlighting the ambiance and lighting of the conference room. Third, areas for improvement are clearly suggested, specifically noting the limited number of staff members assigned for service and the slow Wi-Fi connection. The tone is appropriately polite and formal for a business-related complaint and request letter. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout and all requirements are fully satisfied, aligning well with the Band 7 criteria.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose from the introduction to details, positive aspects, areas for improvement, and a polite sign-off. Cohesive devices such as 'Last week', 'We also', 'First of all', 'Secondly', and 'Apart from this' are used to guide the reader smoothly through the text. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different ideas. Although some transitions are slightly formulaic, the overall progression of information is clear and easy to follow, supporting a solid Band 7 score.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for this task, utilizing terms such as 'appreciation', 'organisation', 'skill enhancement event', 'amenities', and 'consideration'. There is a minor spelling error ('statisfied' instead of 'satisfied') and a minor lexical slip in 'the event, our company hosted' where the comma is intrusive. However, less common phrasing is attempted with some success, such as 'up to the mark' and 'take my suggestions into consideration'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message clearly without communication being impeded, fitting the Band 6 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively, such as 'I am writing today to express my appreciation regarding the event, our company hosted in your hotel' and 'If I talk about a particular thing, everyone loved the ambiance and lighting of your conference room.' There is a noticeable subject-verb agreement error with 'All the attendees along with our company's director is statisfied', where the verb should be plural 'are' to match the compound subject or primary head. Additionally, the comma after 'event' is unnecessary. Despite these errors, the majority of sentences are clear and grammatical control is generally good, supporting a Band 6 rating.
