Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. First, details about the event are provided, mentioning the Diwali festival celebration held at the 'Rose Garden Grand' hotel on 26 December from 6 pm to 11 pm, along with the attendance of employers and chief guests. Second, positive aspects of the hotel are highlighted, specifically noting the unique and stylish layout, friendly staff services, and facilities like the garden and pool. Finally, areas for improvement are suggested, focusing on the bedrooms and bathrooms. While some ideas could be slightly more fully extended and articulated with greater clarity, all required information is present and the appropriate letter format and tone are attempted, satisfying the criteria for a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs that correspond to the standard structure of an informal or semi-formal business letter and address the prompt's requirements sequentially. Cohesive devices and transition phrases are used to connect ideas, such as 'to begin with', 'Another thing is that', and 'Firstly', though some of these are somewhat mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'Apartfrom it'). Referencing and paragraphing are generally clear, providing an overall coherent arrangement that allows the reader to follow the writer's message without significant confusion. This places the performance comfortably at Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common items and descriptive phrases such as 'stylish layout', 'chief guests', and 'facilities'. However, there are numerous lexical and spelling inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'campany' instead of company, 'reagarding' instead of regarding, 'dewali' instead of Diwali, 'sevices' instead of services, and 'facilites' instead of facilities. While these errors are noticeable and reflect a limited lexical control in places, the vocabulary is minimally adequate for the context and does not severely impede overall communication, aligning with Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and emerging complex sentence structures, such as 'that my company will organise in your hotel'. However, grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors in verb tense consistency (e.g., mixing past context with future/present forms like 'that my company will organise' and 'what i like most'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing such as 'bedroom well neat and clean also provide proper facilities'. Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent throughout. These frequent errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, placing the performance at a Band 5.0.
