Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to share my feedback on the services provided by your hotel during a event.

I booked a main hall for celebrating my company's 15 th anniversary .A total number of people were 100 .

What I liked the most about the hotel is the hospitality given by each of your staff member.Everyone waa warmly welcomed and asked frequently abiout food and drinks. The food was quite delicious and overall hyigene was maintained.

I would like to suggest one impovemenrt that could make the experinece more enjoyable is to arrange more parking spaces outside,as everyone was complaining about the shortage of parking inside the hotel premises.

Thank you for your time and consideration.Looking forward to take this matter into your consideration.

Yours sincerely,

Sukhdeep Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt: you provided details about the event (celebrating a company's 15th anniversary with 100 people in the main hall), mentioned what you liked (the hospitality of the staff and the food), and suggested an area for improvement (more parking spaces). However, there is a penalty to your score because the length requirement of 150 words was not met, as your letter contains only 130 words. As a result, the development of your ideas is slightly constrained and incomplete. To achieve a higher band score in future tasks, ensure you expand further upon each bullet point to comfortably exceed the minimum word count and provide fully developed ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your letter follows a clear overall arrangement with an appropriate greeting, body paragraphs addressing each prompt requirement, and a proper sign-off. You use basic paragraphing to separate your points. However, there are some noticeable referencing and cohesion issues, such as starting a new paragraph abruptly with "A total number of people were 100 ." Additionally, some sentences feel disconnected due to missing cohesive devices. To improve cohesion, use a wider range of linking words and ensure that ideas flow logically from one sentence to the next without abrupt transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your meaning regarding the event, hospitality, food, and parking. However, there are several spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as "hyigene" instead of "hygiene", "impovemenrt" instead of "improvement", and "experinece" instead of "experience". These errors indicate a lack of precision. To reach a higher band score, you should aim to use less common lexical items with greater accuracy and carefully proofread your writing to eliminate basic spelling slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as "What I liked the most about the hotel is the hospitality given by each of your staff member." There are several grammatical errors and punctuation issues, including subject-verb agreement problems (e.g., "each of your staff member" should be "members", "Everyone waa warmly welcomed" should be "was"), spacing errors around punctuation marks, and awkward phrasing in the closing sentence ("Looking forward to take this matter into your consideration"). Despite these errors, communication is not severely impeded. To improve, work on sentence structure accuracy and grammatical consistency.
