Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I'm writing this letter to share my reviews and experience in accordance to my and my teams stay in the hotel for annual dinner event and 3 days of holidays in the same hotel.

The location of the hotel is good and easily reachable. The hall was big and arrangement was nice. There was a variety of food that was served and it was delicious, everyone liked it.

However, i want to add here the experience we had at the reception. I had made the booking and paid 50% in advance, yet when we arrive there the receptionist had no idea about our booking.

After waiting for 45 minutes, we got the access to the rooms. The rooms were neat and tidy initially but on other days, no cleaning team reached out or bothered to clear the mess. I personally went to the reception again and asked them to send the cleaners to all rooms that too after some time they took action on it.

Keeping all the circumstances in view, I would suggest the communication and coordination of hotel staff needs to be matured. Team has to be vigilant in work understanding the sense of responsibility. Going forward this would help keeping the hotel reputation in place.

I hope the areas of concentration would be discussed and neccessary implementations will be made.

Best Regards,

Ranisa Ghafoor

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student successfully covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. The letter provides details about the event such as the annual dinner and a three-day stay, mentions what was liked about the hotel including the location, hall size, and food quality, and clearly suggests areas for improvement regarding staff communication and reception efficiency. The purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning and maintained throughout. The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint and feedback letter to a manager. Although some ideas could have been elaborated further, all aspects of the prompt are addressed adequately, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or solid Band 7 in this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall progression, moving logically from the purpose of the letter and positive aspects to negative experiences and finally to suggestions for improvement. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different points, such as the event details, the reception issue, and the concluding recommendations. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'However', 'Yet', and 'Going forward', although some transitions feel slightly mechanical ('Keeping all the circumstances in view'). Referencing is generally clear, though minor cohesive slips occur. Overall, the organization supports the message well, placing this response comfortably in the Band 6.5 to 7 range.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating points about hospitality and event management ('annual dinner event', 'easily reachable', 'receptionist', 'vigilant', 'sense of responsibility'). However, there are some noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'share my reviews and experience in accordance to my and my teams stay' (instead of 'regarding my team's stay'), 'matured' (used instead of 'improved' or 'developed'), and 'keeping the hotel reputation in place'. Spelling is generally accurate with minor punctuation oversights ('i' instead of 'I', 'neccessary'). The vocabulary range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, but frequent slight awkwardness keeps the score at a 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses using 'yet', 'although', and relative clauses. There are several grammatical errors and awkward structures throughout the text, such as 'when we arrive there' (tense inconsistency), 'that too after some time they took action on it' (run-on/awkward phrasing), and 'I hope the areas of concentration would be discussed and neccessary implementations will be made' (passive voice and collocation issues). Despite these errors, communication is rarely impeded, and the meaning of the letter remains clear. The control of grammar corresponds to a Band 6.
