Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter about the recent event which has held in your hotel INN. It was an amazing experience in an event. I reserved your hotel for my organization guests for 1 night stay.
I would like to say thankyou that your hotel staff has provided best services to our honorable guests. The food was so delicious, staff was friendly and cooperative, ambience was elegant, decoration was also appropriate as per our requirement for the event. One of the best key point which caught my attention was hygiene. Your hotel was so clean and free from any contamination.
Eventually, I would like to recommend some areas which needs to be determined. There should be a extra parking space for visitors. They only face this issue on that day due to minimum parking space. I would really appreciate if you can arrange extra parking space next time.
If you have any concerns do not feel hesitate to me on this contact number -[redacted phone].
Yours Sincerely,
Rupinder.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student successfully addresses all three bullet points required in the prompt. First, details about the event are provided, mentioning the hotel INN, the one-night stay for organization guests, and the purpose. Second, positive aspects such as delicious food, friendly staff, elegant ambience, appropriate decoration, and excellent hygiene are clearly highlighted. Third, a constructive area for improvement regarding the parking space is suggested. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and directly respond to the task instructions, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter is arranged in a coherent overall structure with a clear beginning and ending, appropriate for a formal letter. Paragraphing is used to separate the introduction, the positive feedback, the areas for improvement, and the sign-off. However, referencing and cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as transitioning with 'Eventually, I would like to recommend...'. Despite some minor cohesive flaws, the progression of ideas is easy to follow, making this a solid performance for Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases like 'cooperative', 'ambience', and 'contamination'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'event which has held' instead of 'was held', 'organization guests' instead of 'organization's guests', and 'do not feel hesitate' instead of 'do not hesitate'. While these errors do not impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures frequently contain errors. Examples of grammatical inaccuracies include passive voice errors ('which has held' instead of 'was held'), preposition misuse ('stay for organization guests' instead of 'for a one-night stay'), and verb form errors ('needs to be determined' instead of 'need to be addressed'). Punctuation and spacing errors around commas also occur. Nevertheless, the meaning remains clear throughout, aligning with the Band 5.5 descriptors.
