Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you in radiant health and the best of spirits. I am writing this letter to commend the exemplary services provided at your hotel while i had to assist my company in organising an event at your Hotel Park Inn.
We hosted an event for our international clients on September 20, 2026 considering your excellent reviews online and the services provided. It was held in one of your biggest halls in the basement where almost 100 guests were invited. Everyone praised about your staff since they were very heart warming and welcomed everyone with so much respect and love. They were very corporating and adjusting to all changes that we wanted at the last minute. Moreover, the interior of the hotel was very demure and elegant which made everyone surprised.
However, there were some issue we faced. The food platters were not labelled as veg or non-veg which caused some sense of tension among us.Also, the information regarding the ingredients was not specified since we made a concern about the allergies while reserving the place.
Considering these issue, i hope you will take necessary steps to address the problems to maintain the reputatioin of the hotel.
Yours Faithfully,
Drishti

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task. You clearly provided details about the event, mentioning that it was held on September 20, 2026, for international clients with around 100 guests in the basement hall. You also highlighted what you liked about the hotel, specifically praising the welcoming staff and the elegant interior. Furthermore, you suggested areas for improvement regarding the lack of food labels for dietary requirements and missing allergy information. All requirements of the prompt are covered, and your tone is appropriately polite and formal throughout. While the bullet points are adequately covered, some ideas could be extended slightly further to reach a higher level of development, such as providing more specific consequences of the food labeling issue.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your letter has a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The opening and closing sections are correctly formatted, and the body paragraphs are arranged coherently, moving from event details and positive aspects to areas of improvement. You make effective use of cohesive devices to guide the reader through your points, such as 'Moreover' to introduce positive features and 'However' to transition into the problems you faced. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating the greeting, details, positives, negatives, and sign-off clearly. To achieve a higher level of cohesion, you could ensure that referencing devices are smoother and avoid minor over-reliance on basic connectors, creating even more seamless transitions between sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common expressions such as 'radiant health', 'exemplary services', and 'demure and elegant'. However, there are some noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and spelling that prevent a higher score. For example, writing 'while i had to assist' contains a lowercase pronoun, 'praised about' contains an unnecessary preposition, 'heart warming' should ideally be written as a single word or hyphenated, 'corporating' is the incorrect form of cooperating, and 'reputatioin' contains a spelling error. Despite these occasional slips, your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your message clearly and suit the semi-formal/formal tone required for a complaint and commendation letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and subordinate structures like 'considering your excellent reviews online' and 'since they were very heart warming'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede communication. Examples of areas needing attention include lowercase personal pronouns ('i'), missing articles ('there were some issue we faced' should be 'issues'), subject-verb agreement or singular/plural mismatches ('Considering these issue'), and punctuation issues around commas and periods. To reach the next level, you need to produce a higher frequency of error-free sentences using complex structures with greater control over punctuation and articles.
