Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am writing this letter to inform you about the organization of the ceremony which I was their leader, that took place in the hotel Presiential last week.
The event is happened on Tuesday last week in a renowed hotel in Enugu. It is the workshop we the caritals group of company do every year to update different hospitals staff about the treatment of HIV patients. According to the the Word Health Organisation (WHO), the disease has been fast spreading nowdays compare to the olden days because of lack of awareness.
The accomation was very perfect for this kind of confrence because, it has a seren environment and their halls as well as rooms are super spacious for this kind of events.
My suggestion is that more parking spaces should be provided because the one available is limited and majority of the participants parked their vehicles outside the hotel which is improper due to security reasons.
I look forward in recieving your favourable reply about the parking space.
Yours faithfully,
Omeje Nwanneka

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt, addressing the details of the event, the aspects of the hotel you particularly liked, and suggesting areas for improvement. You provide specific context about the annual HIV awareness workshop organized for hospital staff, mention the serene environment and spacious halls of the hotel, and put forward a clear suggestion regarding the limited parking spaces. While all requirements are present, certain ideas show a slight imbalance in development. For instance, the discussion on the World Health Organisation and the disease spreading becomes a bit tangential to the core purpose of a hotel feedback letter, whereas the positive aspects of the accommodation are touched upon rather briefly. To reach a higher standard, every bullet point needs to be fully extended and directly focused on the context of the letter without drifting into background explanations about the medical condition.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a logical flow from the introductory purpose to event details, positive feedback, suggestions, and a polite closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different points, such as placing the parking suggestion in its own dedicated paragraph. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For example, referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'the event is happened' and 'the one available', which disrupt the smooth progression of ideas. Furthermore, transitions between sentences lack variety. To achieve a stronger organizational flow, you should ensure that cohesive devices are used more flexibly and that referencing words clearly and accurately point back to their intended antecedents without causing ambiguity for the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the main message, but it features noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form. For instance, words like 'Presiential' (Presidential), 'renowed' (renowned), 'caritals' (cardinals/capital), 'accomation' (accommodation), 'confrence' (conference), and 'nowdays' (nowadays) detract from the overall precision of the writing. You attempt some less common vocabulary items, such as 'serene environment' and 'participants', but spelling mistakes and minor collocation slips indicate limited control over the lexical field. To move up to a higher band, you need to demonstrate a wider and more accurate range of vocabulary, minimizing spelling slips and ensuring that less common phrases are used with precise style and correct form.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Your writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to construct varied clauses, such as in 'I am writing this letter to inform you about the organization of the ceremony which I was their leader'. However, there are persistent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Noticeable issues include tense and verb form errors ('The event is happened', 'compare to'), prepositional usage ('in recieving'), and pronoun agreement ('which I was their leader'). Although these errors rarely impede overall communication and the reader can still understand your points, they occur frequently enough to restrict your grammar score. To improve your grammatical range and accuracy, focus on mastering verb tense consistency, correct prepositions in set patterns, and ensuring that complex sentence structures remain error-free.
