Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully covers all the required parts of the task prompt. You provided details about the event, such as the conference meeting for forty people and the Italian restaurant booking. You also mentioned what you liked, including the wonderful ambience, decoration, and food, and suggested areas for improvement regarding the cleanliness of the restroom and the lobby area sofas and carpets. However, some of these ideas are presented rather briefly and remain under-developed. For instance, explaining the purpose of the annual gathering and the specific aspects of the five-star services could have been expanded further. Despite this lack of full extension in places, all bullet points are clearly addressed, ensuring the response remains relevant and on-task throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The text demonstrates a basic overall arrangement, but the organisation lacks a clear logical progression and adequate paragraphing. The entire letter is presented as a single block of text rather than being properly divided into logical paragraphs for the greeting, event details, positive aspects, areas for improvement, and sign-off. Furthermore, cohesive devices are largely absent or mechanical, relying heavily on simple conjunctions like 'so' or unlinked sentences. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as when starting sentences abruptly without smooth transitions, which makes the flow choppy. To improve this criterion, you need to group related ideas into distinct paragraphs and use a wider range of appropriate transition words to link your thoughts smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to complete the task, attempting some less common items such as 'ambience', 'decoration', and 'restroom'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'confrence', 'organise', 'Totel', 'pepole', 'evey', 'becuase', 'achive', 'restarunts', 'imrovement', and 'grubby'. While these vocabulary and spelling errors do not completely impede communication because the context remains clear, they restrict the lexical score. To move up to a higher band, you need to demonstrate greater precision in word choices, reduce spelling mistakes, and incorporate more sophisticated collocations and less common lexical items naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing includes a mix of simple sentence forms and some attempts at complex structures, such as conditional or dependent clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and sentence boundaries. Examples include sentence fragments and run-on structures like 'Which is a confrence meeting organise by from our company' and 'If we achive our target so this is small treatment from company side.' There are also issues with verb forms and tenses, such as 'I am connecting to you', 'I whould like', and missing punctuation at the beginning of sentences and proper sign-offs. These errors require some effort from the reader to parse the meaning, placing the grammatical control at this level.
