Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir / Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter about our company held an event in your hotel. That event was held because our company recently achieved a great success in one of the big projects, and I would like to give you some feedback about your hotel management. Your hotel’s hospitality was very outstanding and the food quality was very delicious. Even the entrance of the hotel was splendid and well designed.
Although, I am really impressed about about the decoration and hotel staff efforts, little discomfort about the speaker quality and some lighting setup. You really need to improve the quality of the speakers because the sound was echoey and guest were not able to heard clearly, and the lights were too dull, and needed to be brighter.
I hope you find my suggestion very helpful. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Parth Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You successfully cover all parts of the bullet points required in the task instructions. You provide relevant details about the corporate event, mention what you particularly liked about the hotel such as the hospitality, food, and entrance, and clearly suggest areas for improvement regarding the sound system and lighting. However, while all parts are addressed, some ideas remain slightly under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the details about the event are restricted to a brief statement about achieving success in a project, and the suggestions for improvement are somewhat basic. To reach the next level, you need to expand your points with more specific descriptions, perhaps explaining how the audio issues impacted the event or offering more precise recommendations for the lighting setup.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter presents a coherent overall arrangement that is easy to follow from the standard greeting to the formal sign-off. You organise your text into logical paragraphs: an introduction explaining the purpose of the letter, a body paragraph detailing the positive aspects and the areas for improvement, and a closing paragraph expressing hope for a response. However, your cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or slightly faulty. For example, the transition "Although, I am really impressed about about the decoration and hotel staff efforts, little discomfort about the speaker quality..." is awkwardly joined and lacks a complete main clause to balance the contrast. To improve, you should ensure that your sentences flow more naturally using a wider range of appropriate and accurate linking words to show relationships between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message about the hotel event, the hospitality, and the equipment issues. You attempt some less common lexical items, such as 'hospitality', 'splendid', and 'echoey', which demonstrate a reasonable effort. However, there are notable word choice and phrasing errors that prevent a higher score, such as writing "company held an event" instead of 'company held its event', and the repetition of the preposition 'about' in "impressed about about the decoration". Additionally, minor collocation issues like "food quality was very delicious" (food is typically described as delicious, while quality is described as high) appear in the text. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary with greater precision, avoiding repetitive phrasing and ensuring natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms throughout the letter, such as using subordinate clauses introduced by 'because' and 'although'. There are, however, several noticeable grammatical errors that reflect a developing control of grammar. For example, you write "our company held an event" where a relative clause or participle phrase like 'that we held' would be more accurate, and there is a subject-verb agreement slip in "guest were not able to heard clearly" (guests were not able to hear). Preposition and article usage also show occasional inaccuracies. These errors do not impede communication since your overall meaning remains clear, but they occur frequently enough to keep the writing at this level. To improve your grammatical range and accuracy, you should focus on eliminating basic errors in verb forms, plurals, and prepositions while striving for more error-free complex sentences.
