Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, covering the details of the event such as the date, time, guest count, and the conference hall booking under the name Aero Tech. Furthermore, it clearly mentions what was liked about the hotel, including the food, management, and clean uniforms, while also suggesting specific areas for improvement like the restroom cleanliness and the addition of a live kitchen. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed or lack extended elaboration, such as the brief mention of the sound system operator. Overall, the communication of the message is achieved, but a higher level of detail and extension across all bullet points is needed to reach the next standard.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure from the opening salutation and event details to positive feedback, suggestions for improvement, and a closing. Paragraphing is used to separate different thoughts, such as isolating the specific hotel features from the critique of the restrooms. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes mechanical or abrupt, for instance with the sudden transition using 'To be very honest with you guies' and the lack of smooth linking phrases between sentences. Additionally, mechanical errors in paragraph transitions prevent the progression from flowing naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating basic points regarding the hotel experience, event, and parking facilities. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items and phrases, such as 'adroable' and 'massive parking', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including 'adroable' instead of adorable, 'conferance' instead of conference, 'operater' instead of operator, 'perfertely' instead of perfectly, 'massfull' instead of messy, and 'Thnaks' instead of Thanks. These lexical inaccuracies and misspellings cause some minor difficulty for the reader, placing this criterion at the current level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response features a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, demonstrating basic control over sentence construction. However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation issues that persist throughout the text, such as 'I am writing a letter to regarding', run-on structures like 'conferance hall for 6 hours. with name of', subject-verb agreement issues in 'all the waiters are was wear neat and clean', article omissions before nouns, and missing capitalization. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, their frequency and the limitations in structural variety keep the writing firmly within this band.
