Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir / Madam,

I am writing to express my recent experience, that I had with your hotel. Last Wednesday, my company's event took place at your property. It was a nine hours long event and I was truly mesmorized by the decoration.

Additionly, the amount of attention that was paid to the details and over-view that was given by me was truely commendable. The hospitality provided by the staff was top-notch. I was concerened initially regarding the sitting arrangements, as it was our first time at your hotel and the hall appeared to be bit tight. However, it was not a problem.

I would like to make a suggestion for parking, there should be a valet. Later, when we all were leaving it created a confusion because when the guests arrived, valet parked there vehicle and later on just the car keys were handed over by the receptionist. To keep the things go smoothly, you should consider my suggestion.

I would really appretiate your time and efforts.

Yours truly

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You successfully covered all parts of the task requirements by providing details about the company event, mentioning what you liked about the hotel, and suggesting an area for improvement regarding the parking and valet system. However, your response sits comfortably within the middle band because some ideas are treated with varying levels of depth. For instance, while the praise for the staff and decoration is clear, the explanation of the event details and the parking situation remains somewhat brief and could be extended further with more supporting examples to fully satisfy the requirements for higher levels.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your letter presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear purpose established from the beginning, allowing the reader to follow your thoughts easily. You attempted to use cohesive devices such as 'Additionly', 'However', and 'Later', although referencing and transitions are sometimes a bit mechanical or faulty, as seen in the sentence 'Later, when we all were leaving it created a confusion because when the guests arrived...'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate your introduction, the positive aspects, the suggestions, and your sign-off, which contributes to the logical progression of your ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrated an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common expressions such as 'commendable', 'top-notch', and 'mesmorized'. However, there are several noticeable spelling errors like 'mesmorized', 'Additionly', 'concerened', and 'appretiate', alongside minor word-form or word-choice inaccuracies such as 'express my recent experience, that I had' and 'created a confusion'. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent you from achieving a higher rating due to the frequency of spelling slips and imprecise lexical choices.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You used a mix of simple and complex sentence forms effectively, such as concession clauses with 'Although' or conditional and contrastive structures like 'However, it was not a problem.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including articles, prepositions, and awkward phrasing such as 'nine hours long event' instead of 'nine-hour event' and 'parked there vehicle' instead of 'their vehicle'. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication and the majority of your sentences remain understandable.
