Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing this letter to give a feedback on an event, which was organised by me at your hotel.
Last month at 31st December, We had an investor meeting at your place, and in this regard two halls were booked, one is for all hands on meeting, and another one is for dinner.
Although there was a bad weather outside, the ambience inside the hotel really caught everyone's attention. Specifically, warm lights and temperature of the hall. Additionally, our guests were impressed by the hospitality, which was shown by hotel management.
Despite having a succesful event, there were some areas which could have been improved in future. Firstly, there were not many vegetarian friendly options, and all other food items were not warm. Therefore, I would like to recommend that a dinner menu should be discuss beforehand with the host. If food is not warm, then it should not be served to guests unless it's cold delicacy.
I am really looking forward to your oprations improvements in near future.
Yours faithfully,
Jay

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by providing details about the investor meeting event, mentioning aspects of the hotel you liked such as the ambience and hospitality, and suggesting areas for improvement like the food temperature and vegetarian options. A clear purpose and tone are maintained throughout the letter. The ideas are generally relevant and extended, although the suggestions for improvement could be slightly more fully developed to reach higher levels. For instance, the discussion on food options and temperatures covers the main points well, but mentioning specific alternatives or how the catering could be handled differently would have added further depth to the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression from the opening statement to the concluding remarks. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different topics, such as the event details, the positive aspects of the hotel, and the areas for improvement. Cohesive devices are employed with reasonable flexibility, using transition words like 'Although', 'Additionally', and 'Firstly' to guide the reader through the text. However, referencing is occasionally slightly mechanical, and smoother integration of cohesive links would elevate the structure further. Overall, the message flows well and is easy to follow from beginning to end.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
An adequate range of vocabulary is used to complete the task effectively. The writer attempts some less common expressions, such as 'ambience inside the hotel' and 'vegetarian friendly options', showing an awareness of style appropriate for a formal complaint or feedback letter. However, there are some word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'give a feedback' instead of 'provide feedback', 'at 31st December' instead of 'on 31st December', and 'oprations' which contains a spelling error. These inaccuracies do not impede communication, but they reflect a typical profile where vocabulary control needs greater precision and consistency.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination with structures like 'Although there was a bad weather outside' and 'If food is not warm, then it should not be served'. There are some grammatical and punctuation errors present, such as 'a bad weather' (uncountable noun), 'one is for all hands on meeting' (tense and preposition inconsistency), and 'in future' instead of 'in the future'. Additionally, 'menu should be discuss' contains a passive voice error. These errors occur across the text, but they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to grasp the intended meaning without significant difficulty.
