Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 2.5
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, containing only 56 words in total. Consequently, the task is addressed only minimally. While the writer manages to state the purpose of the letter and mentions the company event, the bullet points required by the prompt—specifically detailing the event, mentioning what was liked about the hotel, and suggesting specific areas for improvement—are largely omitted or extremely truncated. Ideas are severely limited and under-developed, leaving the recipient with almost no substantive information. To improve significantly, the writer must expand the response to meet the word count and ensure every part of the prompt is fully covered and extended with specific examples and explanations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Information and ideas are not arranged in a coherent or fully logical manner. The letter begins appropriately with the standard salutation, but the progression of ideas breaks down immediately due to the extreme brevity of the text. Paragraphing is disjointed, featuring very short, disconnected sentences such as 'It was such a fabolous event which helped the employees to gain knowledge.' There is a lack of effective cohesive devices to link ideas smoothly across sentences, making the overall structure feel abrupt and fragmentary. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to group related ideas into logical paragraphs and use a wider range of cohesive devices to guide the reader clearly through the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and narrow in scope, which restricts the depth of communication. The student attempts a few descriptive words, but these contain spelling and word-form errors, such as 'comapny' instead of 'company' and 'fabolous' instead of 'fabulous'. Furthermore, phrases like 'in the form of organisation the event' demonstrate awkward word choice and unnatural collocation. These errors and the restricted range of vocabulary strain the reader's understanding. To improve lexical resource, the writer should incorporate a wider variety of less common vocabulary items with accurate spelling and learn standard collocations appropriate for formal business correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentence structures with frequent errors that impede clarity. The text contains noticeable errors in prepositions and clause structures, such as 'in which I helped the comapny in the form of organisation the event', where the grammatical pattern is awkward and non-standard. Punctuation is also neglected, as seen in the missing space after the period in 'event. It was'. Because the range of structures is extremely narrow and errors occur frequently even within short sentences, meaning is sometimes obscured. To improve, the writer needs to practice complex sentence structures, ensure accurate use of prepositions, and maintain proper punctuation and sentence boundaries.
