Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by providing details about the corporate event held at the hotel, mentioning positive aspects such as the welcoming staff, spacious seating area, and delicious food, while also suggesting areas for improvement concerning the unstable internet connection during the conference. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat uneven. While the description of the positive aspects and the complaint about the Wi-Fi are relevant, the elaboration remains a bit brief and limited in detail, which prevents the response from achieving a higher level of thoroughness. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, successfully fulfilling the communicative purpose despite some structural lapses in the presentation of ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to follow a standard formal letter format, including an appropriate opening and closing. However, the progression of ideas is occasionally disrupted by mechanical and faulty cohesion. Sentences and clauses are often chopped up, and paragraphing is underdeveloped, with multiple distinct points crammed into single blocks rather than being separated logically. Referencing is also sometimes unclear, particularly with abrupt transitions between the hotel's positive features and the negative feedback regarding the internet connection. While the reader can follow the general drift of the letter, the lack of smooth cohesive devices and poor paragraph management keep the overall organization basic.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts relating to hotel services and events. There are several attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'conference meeting', 'candidates', and 'negative review', but these are accompanied by noticeable spelling errors, such as 'ecxellent', 'delicius', and 'spacecius'. Word choice and word form are occasionally awkward or imprecise, as seen in phrases like 'recent an event' and 'internet con nection loosing'. Fortunately, these lexical slips and spelling inaccuracies do not seriously impede communication, allowing the manager to easily understand the main points being conveyed, though they highlight a need for greater precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing displays a limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are several noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including missing auxiliary verbs ('The event organise by from our company side'), incorrect prepositions, issues with tense consistency ('The event held...'), and punctuation errors such as missing spaces after periods. Although these errors are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from achieving a higher accuracy profile, they rarely completely obscure the meaning, allowing the core message to remain accessible.
