Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir, I hope you are doing well. I am glad to share the details of the event that I organized for my company in your hotel. I was the head of an organizing team. I held a training workshop for my company's employees and give them a detailed lecture on how to overcome a pressurized situation while during work. The whole event was pretty good.

I would like to mention about the catering team that played a crucial role in making this event a successful event. They were really cooperative and kind towards all the attendees. Their behaviour really impressed me. Their way of delivering food at the end of training workshop was outstanding.

But here one thing that I would like to mention that needs improvement is the multimedia of the conference hall. The multimedia was not functioning properly and we faced a little bit annoyance as it switched off automatically twice during the workshop. So I think apart from this inconvenience the whole experience was magnificient and outstanding.

Yours sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You successfully covered all parts of the task by providing details about the event, mentioning what you liked about the hotel such as the catering team, and suggesting an area for improvement regarding the multimedia equipment. All bullet points were addressed, which allows the response to meet the requirements of the task. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed. For example, your description of the event details could have been extended with more specifics about the schedule or the number of participants. To reach a higher level, you should ensure that every part of the prompt is expanded fully with extended explanations rather than brief statements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear beginning and ending. You used paragraphing appropriately to separate different topics, such as the event overview, the positive comments about the catering team, and the complaint about the multimedia. Progression is generally logical, but cohesion is sometimes mechanical. For instance, transitional phrases like "I would like to mention" are repeated, and the connection between sentences could be smoother. To improve further, you should make use of a wider range of cohesive devices and referencing words to link your ideas more naturally across sentences and paragraphs without relying on formulaic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrated an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as "organizing team," "crucial role," and "inconvenience." Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your message clearly, though there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as writing "give them a detailed lecture" instead of giving, and using phrases like "faced a little bit annoyance." Spelling is generally accurate throughout the letter. To reach the next level, you need to incorporate a wider variety of precise, sophisticated vocabulary and natural collocations while avoiding minor slip-ups in word choice.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You used a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over basic structures and successfully constructing longer sentences. There are some errors in grammar, such as the tense shift in "give them a detailed lecture" instead of giving, and the prepositional phrasing in "while during work." However, these errors are relatively minor and rarely impede communication. Punctuation is generally handled well. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use a wider variety of complex grammatical structures with a higher frequency of error-free sentences, ensuring strict consistency in verb tenses.
