Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to ensure some of the improvements in your hotel. My name is Mansi and i am working as a digital marketer in Alexa company.

However, Last week my Company organized an marketing event in your hotel and where some of the well reputed companies attended this event.I had given the responsibility to organise the event in your hotel. Moreover, i am really impressed by the service of my workers in the hotel.

Although, i came to know that when the guests arrived in the hotel they faced alot of difficulties while staying in the hotel rooms. Some of the guests was complaining about the food which is not good and served cold. Secondly, the air conditioner was not working properly.Even on the day of event i also faced a problem to start the projector and some of the other equipments.I just want to please fix these problems immediately so that nobody will suffer this problem like us.

I hope for the better consideration for this.

Your's faithfully,

Mansi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You cover the main situation and include both a positive comment and several areas for improvement: the event was a marketing event attended by other companies, and you mention the hotel staff, food, air conditioning and projector. However, the purpose is not fully clear at the start: “to ensure some of the improvements” does not clearly state that you are writing to give feedback after the event. The positive point is also vague, since “the service of my workers in the hotel” does not explain what the staff did well. Develop the event details and specify the improvements you want, such as checking room service and testing equipment before events. A clearer, more consistently formal request would make the letter more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The letter has a recognisable structure, with an opening, event details, complaints and a closing, and the reader can generally follow the main points. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven. “However” and “Although” do not express the relationships needed in those sentences, and the sequence of complaints is joined with repeated transitions such as “Secondly” and “Even.” Some references are unclear, particularly “my workers in the hotel,” which makes it difficult to know whether you mean hotel staff or your colleagues. Organise the content into clear paragraphs for the event, what worked well, and what needs improvement. Use linking phrases that show the relationship between ideas accurately rather than adding them mechanically.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the basic situation, including “marketing event,” “guests,” “air conditioner” and “projector.” There are also attempts at more formal expressions, such as “responsibility” and “consideration.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, including “ensure some of the improvements,” “my workers in the hotel,” and “better consideration.” These choices make parts of the message difficult to interpret. Spelling and word forms also need attention, for example “alot” and “equipments.” Aim for precise, natural phrases such as “provide feedback,” “hotel staff,” and “take these concerns into consideration,” and check spelling and countable nouns.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including “when the guests arrived … they faced” and “so that nobody will suffer.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and frequent errors affect clarity. Examples include “an marketing event,” “some of the guests was complaining,” and “i am working,” which show problems with articles, subject–verb agreement and capitalisation. Tense use is also inconsistent: the event happened last week, but the letter shifts between past and present when describing the complaints. Punctuation and spacing are unreliable, as in “hotel. My name” and “Secondly, the.” Practise accurate sentence patterns and proofread for agreement, articles, tense consistency, capital letters and sentence boundaries.
