Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir,
Hope you are doing well. I am writting this letter to thank you for the assistance you provided at company event.
I would like to provide some details about the event. Morning first it started with the induction program followed with welcome drink . Additionally, in the afternoon we will be having an award function post lunch in which the employee work hard will be notified. And in the evening 4pm the event will be completed they can go ahead with clicking the phtographs.
On the other hand, the hotel ambiance and the infrastructure were too good and everyone really enjoyed and gave a good feedback. And there is one thing I would perticularly like to mention about this hotel is the staff members they were really cooperative and helpfully in all the ways.
Upon that I would like to suggest some things for the improvements that would be about the food in some of the rice items the food taste was really spicy which most of them dont like it.So, I hope you would make some changes in this.
Thank you, looking forward for your reply.
your sincerely,
Akshatha

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you describe the event schedule, praise the hotel’s ambience, facilities and staff, and identify overly spicy rice dishes as an area to improve. These details make the letter relevant and give the manager useful feedback. However, the event description is not fully clear: “Morning first it started” and the shift to “we will be having” make it difficult to tell whether you are reporting a completed event or describing a future one. The improvement suggestion is also brief and could explain more precisely what change you recommend. A clearer, consistent account of the event and a little more development of the suggestion would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a recognisable structure, with separate paragraphs for the event, positive comments and suggested improvements. This helps the reader follow the main points. Some linking is effective, such as “Additionally” to add an event detail, but other transitions feel mechanical or do not show the relationship clearly: “On the other hand” introduces praise rather than a contrast, and “Upon that” is unclear. Several sentences also join multiple ideas with “And,” while the event schedule would be easier to follow if its stages were presented in a more logical sequence. Use simpler, more precise transitions and clearer sentence boundaries to improve progression and referencing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “induction program,” “award function,” “ambiance,” “cooperative” and “spicy.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main points, but the range and control are limited by noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation errors. For example, “helpfully” does not fit the intended description of the staff, and “the employee work hard will be notified” is an awkward way to describe award recipients. “Phtographs,” “perticularly” and “writting” also reduce the accuracy of the letter. Choose more natural phrases and check spelling; for instance, describe staff as “helpful” and employees as “recognised for their hard work.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the main message is generally understandable. However, some errors in tense, sentence construction, articles and punctuation make parts of the letter unclear. “I am writting this letter to thank you for the assistance you provided at company event” needs an article before “company event,” while “Morning first it started” has an unclear structure. The shift from “it started” to “we will be having” also makes the timeline inconsistent. In “the employee work hard will be notified,” the clause is not grammatically formed. Review article use, subject–verb relationships and tense consistency, and divide long sentences into clearer units.
