Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter to inform you that I am extremely satisfied with your service I received on last saturday. My company hosted two days conference at your hotel, which was a very sucessful event.

All the disgintaries stayed in the hotel experienced quality services and they like that the rooms were clean and spacious with storage facility. The coference was held in the auditorium.

What I most liked about your hotel was all the arrangements were made well in advanced. The technical set up was hassle free, especially sound systems were working properly and there was no issue related echo. In addition to that, technical team was working tirelessly to provide quality services to the attendees. The guest and participants were happy with exceptional service they received and has shared positive comments about your hotel.

However, there were some isses related to the meals. Few people express their dissatisfaction for lesser quantity and a very few options were available for breakfast, on top of it was delayed. My suggestion would be to work your restaurant services to avoid similar incidences in the future.

Apart from that entire event was conducted smoothly. I am really grateful to you for your constant syupport and cooperation to make this event a huge success. I would like to continue this collaboration in the future.

Yours Faithfully,

Aditi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three requirements: it explains that your company held a two-day conference, identifies clean, spacious rooms and effective technical arrangements as positives, and raises concerns about meal quantity, breakfast choice and delays. Your appreciative tone is clear, and the closing expresses interest in future collaboration. The event details and praise are supported with relevant examples, such as the auditorium and functioning sound systems. The improvement request is also understandable, but it is less fully developed: “work your restaurant services” does not specify what changes would help, such as increasing breakfast options or ensuring meals are served on time. A more precise, actionable suggestion would make this part as developed as the positive feedback.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information follows a clear, logical sequence: purpose and event details, positive features, areas for improvement, and a courteous conclusion. Paragraphing helps distinguish these functions, and linking expressions such as “In addition to that,” “However,” and “Apart from that” guide the reader through the letter. The overall progression is easy to follow. Some connections are less smooth, however: the sentence beginning “The guest and participants” shifts abruptly from the technical team’s work to attendees’ reactions, and the long sentence about breakfast combines several complaints without clear separation. Use more precise referencing and divide related points into shorter sentences to make the progression more controlled. The paragraph structure is effective, though cohesion occasionally feels formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a suitable range of vocabulary for a formal complaint-and-appreciation letter, including “spacious,” “technical set up,” “attendees,” “dissatisfaction,” and “cooperation.” These choices communicate the main points, and some phrases show an attempt at a professional register. However, spelling errors such as “sucessful,” “disgintaries,” “coference,” “isses,” and “syupport” are noticeable. There are also awkward or imprecise collocations, including “no issue related echo,” “lesser quantity,” and “work your restaurant services.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce naturalness and precision. Check spelling carefully and choose conventional combinations, such as “there was no echo problem” and “improve the restaurant service.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter includes both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example the relative clause in “a conference at your hotel, which was a very successful event” and the sentence beginning “What I most liked about your hotel.” Most ideas remain clear, but some grammatical errors persist. In “service I received on last Saturday,” the article and time expression need adjustment; “two days conference” needs a possessive form; and “the guest and participants … has shared” has a number-agreement error. The sentence about breakfast also lacks a clear grammatical connection between its clauses. Review articles, plural forms, subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these patterns would make the varied structures easier to read.
