Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir,

I am rajveer kaur who was working on organization of event at a hotel. This is a small party a arranged at the main hall of the hotel on Monday October 10. I choose all the decoration according to your colour choice as you said you like light colours rather than bright. I sent invitation to 50 guests. I have arranged some games such as musicial chairs, so everyone can enjoy. I request your parents to join us on our annual party.

I really like the infrasture of the hotel as well as the big hall. Lighting system is also good. There is another reason why I have choose this hotel because their staff is well educated. Also, their google reviews are good and they have 5 star rating.

Well beside all the good things, I really don't like that they do not have a good cook for italian dishes and they have limited menu options. Other than that music is not allowed after mid night.

But I think that is alright because their are few people in our company who like italian dishes. For music problem, I have arranged all the event activites before 11.

I hope this information will be good for you sir. If you have anything that you may want to change or add, you can message me anytime. I will make it happen for you.

With regards,

Rajveer kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The letter covers the three requested points: it describes a company party, identifies features you liked, and suggests shortcomings. Details such as the main hall, 50 guests and games help explain the event, while the comments about the lighting, staff and Italian menu are relevant. However, the purpose and circumstances are not consistently clear: “I request your parents to join us” seems unrelated to a letter to the hotel manager, and the opening does not clearly explain your role in organising the event. The improvement suggestions are also limited to the cook, menu and music restriction, with little explanation of what change you would like. Clarify the event context and make each suggestion more specific to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a generally coherent arrangement: it moves from event details to positive features, then to drawbacks and a closing. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these sections, and phrases such as “Well beside all the good things” signal a change in focus. However, some connections and references are unclear. For example, “I request your parents to join us” does not follow logically from the event details, and “I hope this information will be good for you sir” leaves the purpose of the letter uncertain. The transition from the music restriction to “But I think that is alright” is understandable but could be more smoothly expressed. Use clearer links between the event, your evaluation and the requested improvements, and keep each paragraph focused on one purpose.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “decoration,” “invitation,” “lighting system,” “limited menu options” and “five-star rating.” There is some attempt to use more specific language about the venue and event. However, the range is limited, and noticeable spelling and word-choice errors sometimes make the reader pause: “infrasture,” “musicial chairs,” “activites” and “well educated” are examples. Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “I choose all the decoration according to your colour choice” and “a good cook for italian dishes.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling and capitalization. More precise wording for the hotel’s facilities and the improvements you recommend would make the letter clearer and more professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The letter includes both short statements and some longer sentences, for example, “There is another reason why I have choose this hotel because their staff is well educated.” However, attempts to combine ideas are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. Examples include “This is a small party a arranged,” “I have choose,” and “their are few people,” which show problems with verb forms, sentence construction and subject–verb agreement. Articles and punctuation also need attention, as in “on Monday October 10” and the inconsistent use of commas in the greeting and closing. Practise forming accurate past-tense sentences to describe the event, and use simpler sentence patterns when a longer structure becomes difficult to control.
