Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
Last week, my company TJX organised an event at your hotel. My company wanted to celebrate their 15 year completion so they choiced your hotal.
Firstly, i would like to thank you on the behalf of my about making the day too special. I likeed all the thing that you organised for celebration like food, drinks, decorations and all. But, there is one thing i liked a most is that you also organised the fun activities to make day more memroable. i was really surprised when you announced the dance competion for all employees. The reason of why i like it most is that all employees had no prepration which make it more funable.
There are one area i would like to give my suggestion for imporvement. Although, your food was delicious but there was not much variety like you should add vagetarian food, eggless food because some of my collague was vagatarin and they did not have much varieties.
Thank you for your time.
Your faithful,
Sukhjit

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three required points: it explains that TJX held an event to celebrate its 15th anniversary, praises the food, drinks, decorations and dance competition, and recommends adding vegetarian and egg-free options. The specific example of employees joining the dance competition without preparation helps make your praise relevant. The improvement suggestion is also clear and supported by the needs of some colleagues. However, a few details could be developed more fully—for example, you could specify the event’s scale or explain more precisely how the hotel’s arrangements made the celebration special. The purpose is clear throughout, and the content is relevant, but fuller development and a more polished formal closing would strengthen the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your ideas follow a generally clear order: you introduce the event, describe what you appreciated, then present an improvement and close the letter. Paragraphing helps distinguish the praise from the suggestion, and linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “But,” and “Although” show how points relate. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “Firstly” suggests a sequence that is not continued, while “But” begins a contrast that could be expressed more formally. The sentence about the dance competition also repeats the idea of why you liked it without a particularly clear transition. Use a small range of accurate links and clearer references between sentences to make the progression more natural and less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the event and your main reactions, including “celebrate,” “decorations,” “dance competition,” and “variety.” The specific terms help the reader understand both the enjoyable activities and the catering concern. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “choiced,” “hotal,” “memroable,” “prepration,” and “vagetarian” are examples. Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “15 year completion,” “liked a most,” and “funable.” Aim to learn accurate collocations for formal letters and check spelling carefully. More precise wording—for example, “15th anniversary” and “a wider selection”—would make your meaning clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “Although” and an explanation beginning “The reason of why.” This shows some range, and the overall message remains understandable. However, errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and verb forms occur across the letter. For example, “there is one thing i liked a most is” combines sentence patterns incorrectly, and “There are one area” has a subject–verb agreement error. In “which make it more funable,” the verb form does not agree with the preceding idea. Capitalisation and punctuation also need attention, particularly the repeated lowercase “i.” Practise building accurate sentences with one clear main clause, then add subordinate clauses where appropriate.
