Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Jeaniya Garg,

I feel happy to inform you that the compnay is organizing a successfull event at Hyatt Hotel at Sudbury.

The event is going to start at 7;00 pm on saturday. The event is related to the success and the growth the company has seen in last two years. The reason higher management choosed this particular hotel becuase this is close to the branch and contains all the necessary ammenties requried specifically the big hall.Another interesting factor is catering which is already included in the package no addditional fee is required to be paid.

Moreover I feel there are some changes which needs to made specially the Lighting. As this place is new the hotel management needs to upgrade the lighting into panel lighting or track light which are very popular and have longer life time.

Also, more parking spots should be added to the building along with the EV charging access.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You include relevant information about the event, what the company values at the hotel, and possible improvements. The timing, the company’s recent growth, the large hall and included catering give the manager useful context. However, the task is only partly fulfilled because the event is described as something the company “is organizing,” rather than clearly as an event you recently helped organise, and the letter does not explain what you personally particularly liked. The improvement suggestions are also brief and not fully explained. In addition, the greeting names an individual instead of using the required “Dear Sir / Madam,” and the opening says you are happy to inform the manager, which does not clearly establish the purpose of the letter. Develop the personal feedback and clarify the event’s details and purpose.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The information is arranged in a generally understandable order: you introduce the event, give details about the venue and catering, then move to suggestions for improvement. Paragraphing helps distinguish these functions, and transitions such as “Moreover” and “Also” make the shift to recommendations clear. However, the event details and reasons for choosing the hotel are crowded into one long paragraph, so the progression is not always easy to follow. Some links are mechanical, and the relationship between the event’s success and the hotel’s features could be made clearer. Use separate paragraphs for the event, positive feedback and recommendations, and connect each point explicitly to the purpose of the letter.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for a hotel event, including “higher management,” “necessary amenities,” “catering,” “lighting,” and “EV charging access.” These choices communicate the main ideas, but several spelling errors and awkward expressions reduce precision, such as “compnay,” “successfull,” “amm enties” (written as “ammenties”), and “no addditional fee.” Some collocations are also unnatural: “organizing a successful event at” does not clearly convey that the event is planned, while “upgrade the lighting into panel lighting” is imprecise. Aim for accurate spelling and more natural combinations, such as “hold an event,” “included in the package,” and “install panel lighting.” This would make your feedback sound more polished and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the explanation beginning “The reason higher management choosed this particular hotel because…” and the recommendation beginning “As this place is new…”. However, these longer structures are not consistently controlled. For example, the reason clause needs a main verb (“The reason … is that…”), “which needs to made” is missing a verb form, and “the growth the company has seen in last two years” needs an article. There are also tense and agreement problems, such as “choosed” and “some changes which needs.” Punctuation is inconsistent, particularly in “7;00 pm on saturday. The event.” Practise building accurate complex sentences and check verb forms, articles, agreement and sentence boundaries.
