Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to provide my feedback regarding a recent event held in your hotel.

I helped my company in organizing an international conference on Stroke rehabilitation which took place on 20th October this month at your hotel. You and your staff's efforts are appreciable which made this event successful. However, there are some points that need improvement. First of all it would be great if you enhance the lighting in the meeting hall as it was not appropriate. Furthermore, your IT department needs to improve the projector facilities because some of slides were not properly displayed which disturbed the audience. Overal the arrangements were good, particulary the participants enjoyed the food. Although services were all good but beverages section could be more better keeping in mind the different people's taste.

I will recomend your hotel for upcoming annual function of the company and I hope to receive best services.

Kind regards,

Rabia

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you identify the event as an international stroke rehabilitation conference, give its date, praise the staff and food, and suggest improvements to the lighting, projector and beverage selection. The positive recommendation for future company events also gives the letter a clear purpose. This meets the task well, and the specific examples show some development. However, the praise is broad, and the improvement points are listed more than explained; for instance, you could describe how the lighting affected the event or give a practical suggestion for the beverages. The event details and feedback are relevant, but developing these ideas more fully would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter follows a generally clear sequence: opening purpose, event details and feedback, then a recommendation and sign-off. Linking expressions such as “First of all” and “Furthermore” help signal the improvement points, and the reader can follow the overall message. However, most of the feedback is packed into one long paragraph, so the positive comments and suggestions are not clearly separated. The transition “Although services were all good but…” is also awkward because the two linking words conflict, and “Overal” appears to introduce a summary without a clear break. Use separate paragraphs for event details, positive feedback and suggestions, and choose simpler, more precise transitions to make the organisation smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for a formal feedback letter, including relevant terms such as “international conference,” “rehabilitation,” “projector facilities” and “participants.” These choices make the subject and the requested improvements clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “provide my feedback” and “recommend your hotel.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “enhance the lighting” would be more naturally expressed as “improve the lighting,” while “beverages section” and “more better” are not idiomatic. Spelling slips such as “Overal,” “particulary” and “recomend” are noticeable but do not prevent understanding. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and proofread spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter includes a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause “which took place on 20th October” and the conditional suggestion “it would be great if…”. Most meaning remains clear, and the errors do not seriously impede communication. Some grammatical problems remain, though. In “You and your staff’s efforts are appreciable which made this event successful,” the clause connection is faulty; try “Your staff’s efforts were much appreciated and helped make the event successful.” The sentence beginning “Although services were all good but…” uses incompatible conjunctions, and “some of slides” needs a determiner (“some of the slides”). Review articles, clause linking and sentence boundaries, while continuing to use varied structures.
